Outdoor PE and play ideas that travel home give St Teresa's nursery a practical character. This is the nursery provision at St Joseph and St Teresa's Catholic Primary School in Woodlands, Doncaster, where the school's age range begins at three. St Teresa's brings Nursery and Reception under the same class name within a Catholic primary school.
Ofsted rated the school's early years provision Good at its inspection on 22 and 23 February 2023. That is an early years judgement within the school inspection, rather than a separate nursery rating.
Playing alongside other children matters here. In February 2023, early years children cooperated in play, took turns and shared resources. They also persisted with problems and tackled them together. For a nursery child, those experiences make learning social: practising how to wait, contribute and keep trying is part of the day.
Movement has a specific place in the timetable. Beginning-of-week nursery children have PE on Monday; the end-of-week group has it on Friday. PE takes place outdoors, so children attend in kit suited to the weather. That makes clothing a practical part of preparing for active learning.
Reading starts in early years. St Teresa's uses Read Write Inc. for early reading, with children organised by reading ability. The February 2023 findings also identified inconsistent pronunciation of letter sounds among some staff, which affected some pupils' ability to blend sounds accurately. Accurate sound modelling was an improvement priority, relevant to families supporting early reading at home.
The EasyPeasy app extends play beyond the classroom. St Teresa's points parents towards games using ordinary household objects, with activity suggestions delivered through videos and instructions. It gives families concrete ways to make everyday moments into opportunities to play together.
A class teacher is the first contact for worries about a child's emotional well-being. The school's pastoral support also includes an Assistant SENDCo who serves as a deputy safeguarding lead. Support covers separation worries, friendships and managing feelings, giving families a route to discuss difficulties that may affect a child's participation in nursery life.
Where further help is needed, the school supports referrals and consultations with services including Early Help, CAMHS and ASCETS. These are school support arrangements, rather than a separate nursery service. The SEND page also directs families to Doncaster's Local Offer and Graduated Approach, connecting conversations in school with local support.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process and meet its deadline. Treat choosing the nursery and applying for Reception as two decisions.
The Applications page carries distinct nursery and school admission documents. Sharing the St Teresa's class name does not itself establish an admissions advantage.
Nursery enquiries go through the school office: telephone 01302 723320 or email admin@sjstcp.co.uk. The Applications page includes a nursery application form for 2026–2027 and nursery admission policies for both 2026–2027 and 2027–28.
For nursery PE, use a white top with navy or black shorts; a black tracksuit is permitted in cold weather. Label the kit. Monday or Friday is the relevant PE day, depending on the child's nursery group.
