Three hours each morning give St Martin's nursery a clear rhythm: an 8.45am start and collection at 11.45am. This is nursery provision within a Church of England primary academy on Burnham Road in Owston Ferry, with an EYFS team also involved in the school's early years class. The school's entry age starts at three.
Christian identity shapes the wider setting. St Martin's names courage, wisdom, respect, love, resilience and hope as its values, and aims to help children develop confidence and perseverance. For families, faith is part of the school's educational outlook rather than simply its name.
Mathematics has a named nursery approach: Mastering the Curriculum resources support specific maths teaching. Alongside this, the early years foundation stage (EYFS) uses practical activities to develop mathematical thinking and problem-solving during continuous provision. Children therefore encounter maths through both focused teaching and hands-on learning.
Across EYFS, classroom mathematics displays bring together vocabulary, pictures and guidance for tackling tasks. These give children visual reference points alongside the activities themselves. White Rose Maths resources also support whole-class mathematics in EYFS; the nursery's specific teaching resources remain Mastering the Curriculum.
The wider early years approach combines play and children's choices with structured learning. EYFS covers seven areas, bringing together language and communication, physical skills, emotional and social development, mathematics, literacy, creative expression and understanding the world. That makes the early years day about more than early reading and counting: movement, relationships and creativity belong alongside them.
Kindness is the early years classroom rule. The school also describes daily worship within its early years class, introducing Christian festivals and values. These are features of the wider EYFS approach, separate from the nursery's morning timetable.
An EYFS class teacher and teaching assistants form part of the staffing structure. Across the school, a pastoral lead also holds a deputy safeguarding role, while a federation SENDCo provides a specialist contact for special educational needs and disabilities. These roles give families different routes for discussing learning and welfare concerns.
The Trentside Federation's SEND approach includes support targeted to individual learning needs. Progress reviews involve parents, teachers and children, making family participation part of the process. Local Authority and Health Authority specialist help can be accessed when required, alongside training for particular interventions.
Beyond school, South Axholme Children's Centre in Epworth provides services and information for families with children under five. It offers another local route to family support.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process and meet the applicable deadline. Treat choosing the nursery and applying for school as two separate decisions.
The nursery morning runs from 8.45am to 11.45am, a three-hour session. Collection is therefore a late-morning commitment for families planning work or other childcare around attendance.

The school keeps some new uniform and a supply of second-hand uniform, giving families a reuse option when obtaining school clothing.
The nursery opens at 8.45am, with collection at 11.45am. The session lasts three hours.
Nursery maths teaching uses resources linked to Mastering the Curriculum. The wider EYFS approach also includes practical mathematical activities during continuous provision.
No. Nursery and Reception admissions are separate, and families must apply again through the normal Reception admissions process.
The federation provides individually targeted SEND support and reviews progress with families. It can access specialist assistance from the Local Authority and Health Authority when required.
