Counting, conversation and Forest School give Roberts' nursery its character. Children can join from age three, becoming part of Roberts Primary School on Robert Street in Lower Gornal, Dudley. This is the school's own nursery provision, with learning and care considered within its early years provision.
Ofsted's March 2026 report judged early years to meet the Expected standard. That judgement covers early years within the school; it is not a separate nursery rating. For parents, the useful detail is the emphasis on language, early number skills and helping children understand their emotions.
Early learning gives vocabulary and counting a clear purpose. In March 2026, the early years curriculum concentrated on developing children's speech alongside number skills, and staff training supported the extension of children's vocabulary. These are practical foundations: having more words helps children express what they mean, while counting introduces the language of number.
Forest School appears repeatedly among nursery calendar activities, giving outdoor learning a named place in the programme. Other calendar examples include a Chinese New Year assembly and an Animal Man visit. These are examples of planned nursery experiences, rather than a promise about the contents of every session.
Books also bring families into nursery learning. Choose a Book parent reading sessions appear in the calendar, alongside nursery maths workshops for parents. They give families a way to take part in the learning themselves, rather than relying solely on updates about it.
Emotional support is part of the early years experience. In March 2026, adults responded gently and helped children recognise their feelings, supporting their ability to handle emotions and behaviour. Children needing additional help generally received it promptly, helping them continue participating in learning.
Regular contact with parents accompanies that support. Early years workshops help families understand children's learning and support it at home. For the start of nursery, the calendar includes a new nursery parents' induction meeting and transition mornings for new nursery and Reception children. These offer an introduction before the new stage begins; they should be distinguished from any individual settling arrangement.
Separate application. Attending Roberts' nursery does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must apply again through the normal school admissions process and meet the deadline for their child's entry year.
For the September 2026 entry cycle, Dudley residents could apply online through Dudley admissions or request a paper form. That cycle's deadline was 15 January 2026, with paper applications due by 5pm and online applications by midnight. Those dates are now past.
Transition activity serves a different purpose from allocation. The calendar includes Play & Stay for new Reception children and a parents' induction meeting, giving families opportunities to become familiar with the next stage. Participation does not replace the admissions application.

The school calendar places the autumn half-term break between 26 and 30 October 2026, followed by an inset day on 2 November and children's return on 3 November. These dates matter when planning family routines around the school calendar.
