Nursery at Folly View Primary

Last reviewed: October 2026 · Inspection data and key information above update regularly, however, this review below is refreshed bi-annually and may not reflect recent changes. Contact the nursery directly to confirm current arrangements. If you spot anything outdated or inaccurate, please let us know.

At a Glance

Garden play, Dough Disco and traditional tales give Folly View’s nursery provision its character: children have room to choose their own activities, alongside teaching in small groups. Seedlings caters for two-year-olds, with 15 places per session. Acorns and Sunflower are the preschool rooms for children aged three and four, within Folly View Primary in Faringdon.

An experienced staff team runs the nursery and preschool rooms. Ofsted judged the school’s early years provision Good at the inspection on 20 to 21 May 2025. That judgement covers early years within the school; it is not a separate nursery rating.

The Nursery Day

Choice shapes both sessions. Children can move between the classroom and garden during the morning and afternoon, selecting activities independently. Indoors, puzzles, construction and pretend play sit alongside painting, books and materials for making marks. Outside, gardening, balancing equipment and ride-on toys give children different ways to explore and move. The spaces accommodate solitary play as well as groups, so joining in need not mean doing the same thing as everyone else.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), with Development Matters, guides the curriculum. In parent terms, this brings together learning to communicate, manage feelings and move confidently with early literacy, number work, creative expression and understanding the world. Staff combine children’s interests with activities they lead themselves. Small groups tackle maths, art and topic work; whole-class activities include music, phonics and Dough Disco. Wednesday PE takes place in the school hall, extending the nursery day beyond its own rooms.

Language has a clear place here. In May 2025, nursery children developed conversation skills through traditional stories and could recite familiar rhymes independently. Early years children also learned to share, cooperate and respect their friends’ feelings. These are practical foundations for participating in a group, rather than simply a list of subjects.

Checking understanding. The May 2025 inspection identified uneven checking of remembered knowledge and vocabulary across the school, leaving some misunderstandings unresolved. This was a school-wide improvement point, rather than a finding confined to nursery, but it matters alongside the positive early years judgement.

Care and Support

Staff take account of children’s earlier experiences at home and in other settings when planning their learning. Praise and encouragement accompany established routines, giving children a familiar structure while they develop independence.

A snack is provided midway through each morning and afternoon session. Friday mornings include a cooking or baking group, for which a termly charge applies. That adds practical food preparation to the play activities.

For children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), support includes extra staff time, resources and individual help. The nursery team works with the school’s SENDCo and Pastoral Lead, while visiting specialists help adapt learning to individual needs. Families can contact the SENDCo at sencofis@fvp.cambrianlt.org. This gives parents a direct route to discuss learning concerns with the team supporting the provision.

Moving On to Reception

Attending the nursery does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through Oxfordshire County Council’s Reception application route, even when their child already attends the nursery, and meet the deadline for their entry year.

Familiarity with school life is a separate benefit. Nursery children use the hall for PE and take part in school theme days. These experiences introduce shared spaces and activities; they do not secure admission to Reception.

Practical Information

The provision offers funded sessions covering 15 or 30 hours, alongside additional sessions that parents can pay for. Morning and afternoon sessions feature in the nursery’s routine. Contact the school for current charges.

Visits can be booked by emailing office@fvp.cambrianlt.org, which also handles nursery enquiries. The school office is on 01367 240655, and the setting’s address is Preston Place, Faringdon, SN7 7XE. A visit gives families a chance to see the nursery rooms and learning spaces before choosing the provision.
