Nursery at Crane Park Primary School

Moon is the nursery class at Crane Park Primary School, with an emphasis on children becoming confident, attentive learners. In February 2025, children in the early years were encouraged to take an active part in learning and develop their concentration. This gives the provision a clear focus: building the habits that help young children engage with their learning.
The nursery belongs to the primary school on Norman Avenue in Hanworth. A separate school playgroup caters for two-year-olds; families should distinguish that provision from Moon rather than treat the two as interchangeable.
Active learning is the clearest thread in the early years experience. In February 2025, staff supported children in classrooms equipped with learning resources, while identifying their needs promptly and accurately. For parents, the useful combination is classroom learning alongside attention to the help an individual child needs to participate.
Support can change how a child tackles an activity. Across the school, teaching adaptations include visual prompts, objects children can handle and tasks divided into smaller steps. Instructions are adjusted to children's age and ability. These are practical ways to make learning more accessible, rather than expecting every child to approach a task in the same way.
Checking understanding. The February 2025 inspection raised a school-wide concern about inconsistent assessment during teaching, which could leave misunderstandings or gaps unaddressed. This was a whole-school improvement point, rather than a finding confined to the nursery. It matters alongside the positive findings about early identification of children's needs.
Starting arrangements give families a part in the introduction to school. Children joining early years in September receive either a home visit from their prospective teacher or teaching assistant, or an induction meeting at school. They also spend time in their new classroom with a parent before starting, giving them a chance to become familiar with the space together.
For concerns about development, the class teacher is the first contact, with the SEND coordinator or senior staff involved when further discussion is needed. The school's Assess, Plan, Do, Review approach brings assessment, planned help and review into a repeating cycle. Parents are involved in deciding support and discussing its effect.
Medical support includes staff training for allergies and other medical needs, with care plans written alongside parents where appropriate. School buildings have no internal stairs, and accessible toilets are provided, useful physical details for families considering individual access needs.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through the normal council process and meet the relevant deadline. Hounslow residents apply through the London Borough of Hounslow; families living elsewhere apply through their own council.
Familiarity and admission are separate matters. When children move between years within the school, information is passed to their new teachers, and transition activities and a summer meeting with the next teacher are arranged where possible. Those preparations support continuity; they do not secure a place.
