Nursery at St Lawrence Catholic Primary School

Play indoors and outside, individual reading time and Catholic teaching give the nursery at St Lawrence Catholic Primary School its character. This is the school's own provision on High Street in Feltham, with Green Acorn and Red Acorn classes, each listed with a teacher and an EYFS practitioner.
For the September 2026 intake, eligible children were born between 1 September 2022 and 31 August 2023. The offer includes limited part-time places and full-time places for working parents. Ofsted's January 2026 report card assessed early years as Expected standard, a judgement covering the school's early years provision rather than a separate nursery inspection.
Children's choices help shape the learning. The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) covers seven learning areas; here, that means time to explore interests through play alongside activities guided by adults. Small groups and independent exploration both have a place. Adults build on what children choose to do, helping them take an idea further.
The weekly EYFS plan includes at least one individual reading session with an adult, plus guided work in maths, religious education and literacy. Children also learn alongside friends and undertake activities independently. This gives families a concrete picture of the balance: choosing, practising and working with an adult, rather than one teaching format throughout the session.
Outdoor learning continues across the year, including in most weather conditions. The nursery has a play frame funded by The Friends of St Lawrence. Indoors, EYFS classrooms have audible story devices and access to a bank of iPads. Caritas in Action resources support Catholic Social Teaching in early years, so faith forms part of the learning programme.
Relationships help children settle. In January 2026, staff recognised individual needs promptly, helped children develop language and social skills, and supported them to become confident with routines. Children settled readily and developed the concentration needed for learning. Home visits for nursery children, parent meetings and consultations are among the arrangements used to support the start of school life.
Evidence Me provides a connection between classroom learning and home. Staff record observations and share progress reports through the app; workshops and meetings give parents further opportunities to discuss learning. For communication difficulties, the school's support offer includes assessment, feedback to parents and possible small-group or individual work with speech and language specialists.
Targeted support. The January 2026 early years findings also identified a weakness: checks on the curriculum's effect were insufficient, and help for children falling behind did not consistently address their precise needs. Children progressed, but some learning gaps persisted longer than necessary. Families considering additional support should weigh this alongside the positive findings about relationships and early identification.
At school level, Olive Dining prepares lunches in an onsite kitchen. Acorn Nursery children under five can receive free daily milk after registration with Cool Milk.
Attending this nursery does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must apply separately through the normal Reception admissions process.
The school's instructions for September 2025 Reception entry directed families to Hounslow's online eadmissions service, with a Supplementary Information Form returned to the school. For September 2026 entry, the stated closing date was 15 January 2026. Both cycles are now past. Support for starting school, including home visits and parent meetings, is distinct from the allocation of a Reception place.
Part-time places comprise 15 hours each week; the full-time option is 30 hours each week for working parents. Nursery applications go directly to the school using a Nursery Application Form and a Supplementary Information Form. These arrangements make nursery joining a separate process from Reception entry.
General enquiries go to the school office on 0208 890 3878 or office@st-lawrence.hounslow.sch.uk. Nursery children use a red book bag, and belongings should carry clear labels. Sanco Schoolwear supplies book bags and clothing bearing the school logo. For current charges, contact the school.
