Learning to share, recognise feelings and follow school routines gives this nursery its clearest character. Part of St Mary's CofE First School & Nursery on Station Road in West Moors, it offers a first experience of school life with a choice between shorter sessions and a six-hour day.
Ofsted graded the school's early years provision Good following its inspection on 23 and 24 April 2025. That judgement covers early years within the school; it is not a separate nursery rating. The nursery-specific finding was practical: children were learning the routines they would need when starting school.
Three hours or six hours shape the choice here. A morning runs from 09:00 until 12:00, an afternoon from 12:00 until 15:00, and a full day from 09:00 until 15:00. Families can therefore consider a shorter session or a day spanning both parts of the timetable.
Within early years, learning includes expressing emotions, sharing and waiting for a turn. These are concrete steps towards managing life alongside other children. Preparation for school includes learning how to participate in the daily routines, rather than simply becoming familiar with a school address.
The wider school's curriculum is called Awesome Curriculum. Its stated values include Sisu and Family, alongside Joy, Hope and Compassion. The school aims to develop confidence, resilience and consideration for others. Those aims give context to the nursery's emphasis on routines and social learning, while the early-years findings provide the specific picture of children practising those skills.
Settling includes cooperation with children's previous settings. In April 2025, this work helped children make the move into early years. For a child changing provision, that connection gives staff a starting point beyond the first session.
Parents can raise concerns with the nursery key worker, and the school office can arrange contact with the SENDCo, the special educational needs coordinator. The school's facilities include a quiet/sensory room intended for children needing a break from classroom activity.
Individual support. In April 2025, some school-wide SEND support needed more exact next steps so that pupils could meet their personal goals. Assessment in some subjects, including mathematics, also needed greater precision in spotting and tackling misunderstandings. These were school-wide concerns; families considering additional support should keep individual targets central to discussions.
Staff receive safeguarding training regularly and use My Concern to report concerns. A designated lead and deputy leads form the safeguarding team, giving families a route for raising welfare concerns.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions route and meet the normal deadline. Applications can be made online through the local authority admissions process.
Learning school routines is preparation for the next stage. It does not settle the admissions decision. Keep the child's transition and the Reception application as two separate tasks.
