Messy play, singing and make-believe give Morehall Nursery its character, with a nursery room and outdoor space designed for exploration. Children can build, experiment and play out familiar situations. The nursery aims to develop independence through these experiences, alongside the social and emotional skills that help children take their next educational step.
Morehall takes children aged 2-4 and belongs to Morehall Primary School on Chart Road in Folkestone. Its opening was in September 2021. This is the school's own nursery provision, with a team comprising a nursery teacher, nursery assistants and a nursery apprentice.
Play takes several forms here. Construction and role play sit alongside singing and messy activities, giving children different ways to explore materials, express themselves and join in with others. Indoor learning has its own nursery room; an outdoor space adds another setting for exploration. The nursery aims to use both spaces to encourage curiosity and growing independence.
The curriculum follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), with the nursery aiming to adapt experiences to individual children's needs. In practical terms, its emphasis brings learning and personal development together: children explore through play while staff work on their social and emotional skills in partnership with families.
Session choice also shapes the day. A morning finishes at noon, while the afternoon begins with lunchtime. Children staying earlier can have breakfast, and those attending Sunset Club receive high tea. That makes meals part of the longer day's rhythm.
Support for additional needs includes personalised provision and checks on children's progress in interventions, so staff can adjust the help they give. The Specialist Teaching Service and CAMHS contribute to nursery SEND support, alongside therapists specialising in speech and language or occupational therapy. A Play Therapist and teaching assistants also contribute to support.
Before a child starts, parents are asked to discuss any additional needs so that support can be arranged. Families and staff work together on concerns, and the nursery will contact parents to discuss difficulties and agree an appropriate response. This gives parents a practical role in planning their child's support.
Food arrangements depend on the session. Morning and afternoon attendance includes snacks and drinks. At lunchtime, families can choose a charged hot meal or send a packed lunch; breakfast belongs to Early Birds and high tea to Sunset Club.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place at Morehall Primary. Parents must make a separate Reception application through Kent County Council using the Common Application Form (CAF), meeting the local authority's application deadline. Treat this as a separate task from arranging nursery attendance.
The nursery aims to prepare children for primary education by developing social and emotional skills with parents and carers. That preparation concerns children's readiness for the next stage; it does not secure admission.
Opening hours are 08:00-18:00 daily during the school's terms. Morning attendance runs from 09:00 to 12:00, and afternoons from 12:00 to 15:00. Early Birds covers 08:00-09:00; Sunset Club runs from 15:00 to 18:00. Dawn till Dusk spans 08:00-18:00, giving families a longer option within the same term-time calendar.
Funding includes Free for 2 (FF2) for eligible two-year-olds, providing up to 570 hours across 38 weeks. From the term after a child's third birthday, universal funding covers a maximum of 15 hours during term time; some eligible families can access the extended 30 hours entitlement. Additional care attracts charges. Funded attendance across opening hours depends on availability when registering, and entitlement does not guarantee a particular attendance pattern. Contact the nursery for current charges.
