Schools in Gateshead

A post-industrial borough of nearly 200,000 on Tyneside's southern shore, Gateshead has rebuilt its public identity around cultural landmarks born of the 1990s waterfront regeneration. The Angel of the North, a twenty-metre steel sculpture installed at the town's southern outskirts in 1998, is among Britain's most recognised public artworks, while the Baltic Centre for Contemporary Art and The Glasshouse International Centre for Music line a regenerated quayside beneath the Tyne and Millennium bridges. Gateshead was once part of County Durham.

Tyne and Wear Metro services run across the borough, and Newcastle Central, a short river crossing away, gives intercity access to Leeds and Edinburgh. Lobley Hill and Bensham are among the most sought-after pockets for primary school catchments, with Beacon Lough equally school-competitive; Dunston and Low Fell complete the family residential spread to the south and west.
