At a Glance

A timber-and-rope Clamber Stack, a water pump and direct access to Wyndham Park give outdoor learning a concrete shape here. Wyndham Park Nursery School is a maintained nursery school in Grantham, with learning organised into age-appropriate groups. It admits children from their second birthday.

Three groups mark the stages: Explorers for two-year-olds, Investigators for children aged two to three, and Adventurers for pre-school children aged three to four. Qualified teachers work alongside early years practitioners. The nursery belongs to the Lincolnshire Maintained Nursery School Federation, whose four schools share expertise while retaining their individual identities.

The Nursery Day

Whole-class activities, smaller groups and independent play give sessions their rhythm. Children learn outdoors and indoors each day, with classroom provision changing as their needs develop. Planning follows a weekly cycle; the nursery recommends daily attendance so children can take part in the full sequence of experiences, while allowing more flexible patterns.

The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) combines learning to communicate, move and manage feelings with early reading, maths, creativity and understanding the world. Development Matters sits alongside it. Counting, cooking, stories, gardening and making marks connect these areas through practical activity. The nursery's Wonderful Wordsmiths goal emphasises explaining and questioning; Budding architects encourages children to develop their own construction ideas. These are aims, rather than a checklist of identical achievements for every child.

Outside, the Clamber Stack offers climbing and balancing, while the Texture Kitchen gives pretend cooking a place of its own. At the Stream, children carry water to a pump and explore how it moves. Equipment receives daily safety checks, and managed physical challenges are part of the nursery's approach. Once children have settled, fortnightly walks into Wyndham Park extend learning to plants, animals and seasonal changes.

At the inspection on 4 March 2025, children made exceptional developmental progress, including those starting with gaps in their learning. Adults expanded children's spoken sentences during play and returned to familiar books, helping language become something children could use themselves.

Care and Support

Settling begins with a stay-and-play visit after a place has been allocated. New starters join in small groups, and a key worker takes responsibility for settling and overseeing development. Parents can remain as long as they wish to help their child settle. That gives families room to build familiarity before separation.

Tapestry shares learning summaries weekly or fortnightly and records significant milestones, alongside everyday conversations and termly meetings. Expect selected moments rather than daily activity logs. Arbor carries texts and emails, so learning communication and practical messages have distinct routes.

Full-day children bring a packed lunch. Snacks promote dental health, and drinks during the day are milk or water. Breakfast Club includes breakfast; early after-school care provides a drink and snack, with a light tea in the late club.

Support for SEND can involve adjusting the physical space, teaching methods or adult help. Speech-sound work, language groups and social-skills groups are among the options, with small-group activities also supporting children learning English as an additional language. In March 2025, needs were recognised promptly, support matched children closely, and safeguarding arrangements were effective.

Moving On to Reception

Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process; the nursery directs parents to Lincolnshire's primary school admissions route.

Preparation and allocation are separate matters. Staff share children's learning approaches, skills and next steps with receiving schools, and invite those schools to spend time with children at nursery. This lets future staff see children in familiar surroundings and understand the activities they know.

Practical Information

Morning sessions run from 8:30am to 11:30am; full days finish at 2:30pm after an 8:30am start. Breakfast Club runs from 7:30am to 8:30am, and After School Club from 2:30pm to 6:00pm. Attendance patterns depend on availability. Wraparound can be regular or occasional, subject to space, and provision operates in term time only.

All three- and four-year-olds receive 15 funded hours; eligible working families may receive up to 30, and some two-year-olds qualify for funded provision. Funding begins the term after eligibility. Funded hours carry no compulsory extra charges; contributions towards snacks and enhancements are voluntary. Contact enquiries@wyndhampark.lincs.sch.uk or 01476 563966 to arrange a tour. Uniform is optional, and practical clothes that children can manage themselves suit outdoor and messy play.
