Lego constructions, handmade masks and children’s own designs give Holy Trinity’s early years provision a practical character. Ladybirds is the nursery class within Holy Trinity Church of England Primary School in Gravesend, taking children from age 3. The governing body intends an intake of 60 nursery pupils at the beginning of each academic year. That is an intended intake, rather than a measure of how many children share a session.
The school describes its Christian values as Love, Honesty and Respect. For families choosing a school nursery, these provide the wider context alongside the nursery’s own teaching and care.
Making and exploring are concrete parts of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum here. During learning that children initiate themselves, construction materials include building blocks and Lego, while card, glue and scissors support making with recycled materials. Adults demonstrate techniques and help children consider suitable materials, explain a design and improve what they have made. The emphasis is on trying ideas in practice.
Art sits within Expressive Arts and Design. Work connects with topics and seasonal celebrations: Diwali and Chinese New Year can prompt card or mask making, and children study at least one artist over the year. These activities give children ways to express ideas through materials as well as speech.
In October 2023, Ofsted identified an early years focus on developing fine motor control. Books included some in children’s home languages, helping them enjoy stories with adults and other children. These findings concern early years across the school, rather than a separate nursery judgement.
A nursery teacher and nursery teaching assistants form the staffing structure. Families with concerns about their child can begin with the class teacher; continuing concerns can lead to a meeting, with the SEND team reachable through the office or at sendco@holytrinity-gravesend.kent.sch.uk. This gives parents a clear route for discussing additional needs.
Aspens supplies school dinners. Packed lunches should support balanced eating, and fizzy drinks and sweets are prohibited. On starting, families complete a medical form covering dietary requirements, intolerances, allergies and other medical needs, so those details can inform care. Children bring a named water bottle, which can be topped up during the day.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through Kent Primary School Admissions and also return Holy Trinity’s Supplementary Form to the school office or by email.
For the 2027 intake, online applications open on 6 November 2026. The application and supplementary form deadline is 15 January 2027. Keep that deadline separate from nursery arrangements: taking a nursery place does not replace either step.
The 15-hour funded options run from 08:30 to 11:30 or from 12:30 to 15:30. The 30-hour funded option runs from 08:30 to 15:30. Funding begins in the term following the child’s third birthday; parents seeking the 30-hour option must obtain an eligibility code through HMRC’s online checking system.
Lunch cover. The 11:30 to 12:30 lunchtime session attracts an extra charge. Ask the school for current charges when planning the hours your family needs.
Nursery applications go to the school office. Enquiries can be made on 01474 534 746 or at admin@holytrinity-gravesend.kent.sch.uk. Nursery uniform includes a red cardigan or jumper and a white polo shirt; the logo is optional. Name clothing individually to help it find its way home.
