At a Glance

Read Write Inc phonics and an Early Years Library give Tudor Court’s nursery a clear reading thread. This is the school’s own provision in Chafford Hundred, with children joining in September after turning three and staying until July before starting full-time education. Morning, afternoon and 30 hour funded patterns create different lengths of day within a Monday-to-Friday routine.

Early years provision received a Good judgement at Ofsted’s inspection on 28 and 29 March 2023. That judgement covers the school’s early years provision, rather than a separately inspected nursery.

The Nursery Day

Nursery phonics includes whole-class teaching and activities in smaller groups. Read Write Inc introduces the relationship between letters and sounds, then how sounds combine to make words. For parents, the useful distinction is that nursery phonics includes both shared instruction and smaller-group practice.

The Early Years Foundation Stage combines learning with developing independence. In March 2023, children across early years listened to adults, tried out learning by themselves and developed confidence with counting and reading. They also showed interest and sustained attention. These findings describe early years collectively, rather than the nursery alone.

Books have a physical home in the Early Years Library, where children and parents can share texts. It extends reading beyond teaching sessions into something families can do together. Elsewhere on the school site, a butterfly garden opened on 8 May 2026, creating space for observing wildlife. This is a school facility; it should not be read as a description of the nursery’s daily outdoor timetable.

Care and Support

For children attending full time, lunch falls between 11:30am and noon. That gives the longer nursery day a defined meal break before the afternoon continues.

Additional needs are considered individually across Tudor Court. Support can involve individual work or small groups, with lessons adapted towards children’s personal targets. This gives families a concrete starting point for discussing how their child’s needs fit the provision. Staff contact goes through the school office.

School communication includes Weduc, which distributes newsletters. Tudor Court aims to send these each half term, giving families a recurring channel for school updates.

Moving On to Reception

Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Parents must submit a separate school application through Thurrock Council, using its Education Department or the online admissions route. Treat this as a fresh application when planning the next stage.

After the council offers a Reception place, Tudor Court arranges a welcome meeting, school tours and induction sessions. Those activities help families prepare for the change; they follow an offer rather than secure one.

Practical Information

Morning sessions run from 8:50am to 11:50am; afternoons run from noon to 3:00pm. The 30 hour funded pattern runs from 8:50am to 3:00pm. Children attend Monday to Friday, so these are allocated weekly patterns rather than individual sessions chosen day by day.

Five morning or afternoon sessions provide 15 government-funded hours. Nursery registration is handled by the school, with a form obtainable through the office. Contact 01375 480 662 or office@tudorcourtprimary.com for enquiries.

At the end of the school day, collection is directly from classrooms. Tell the teacher or office before 2:45pm if someone different will collect; an unfamiliar adult needs parental authorisation. This matters when arranging backup collection for a child attending the longer day.
