Meeting teachers, playing with future classmates and tasting school dinners were planned for September 2026 nursery starters at St John Fisher. That is a practical starting point for families: people, food and the first friendships, before the new routine begins.
The nursery belongs to the Catholic primary school on Sarsfield Road in Perivale and has a Published Admission Number of 52. The September 2026 intake covered children born between 1 September 2022 and 31 August 2023. Catholic education shapes the school's aims, while applications are welcomed from families of any faith or none. Families are expected to support its Catholic ethos.
Teaching is adjusted to children's individual learning needs. In practical terms, the school plans challenges around what children need to learn and adapts provision when they face barriers to taking part.
For children with SEND, the school's teaching arrangements include picture timetables, additional thinking time and signs and symbols alongside speech. These give children different ways to understand instructions and communicate. Speech and language therapists can contribute to planning. Such arrangements are selected around the child's needs, rather than presented as a fixed programme for every nursery child.
Physical access is also part of the school's provision: the ground-floor building, toilets and playgrounds have wheelchair access, and a lift serves the first floor. These are school facilities, relevant to families considering access needs.
September 2026 starters and their families were invited to a Welcome Morning scheduled for 26 June, from 9.30am to 11.30am. Planned opportunities included meeting the teaching team, playing with new classmates and tasting school dinners. Families were also due to receive a Welcome Pack and September dates to help prepare for the start.
Children with identified SEN have a settling plan agreed with parents. Families of children on the SEND register are invited to termly meetings about their provision, giving them a regular opportunity to discuss support and changing needs. Concerns about learning or development go first to the class teacher; the SEND coordinator can also be contacted through the school office.
For 2024-2025, school meals required registration with Feeding Hungry Minds and payment for the meal. Contact the school for current meal arrangements.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place or confer admissions priority. Parents must submit a new application. For the 2027-2028 cycle, the route is the Common Application Form through the family's home local authority, with a school Supplementary Information Form recommended for applications under criteria 1-4 or 6. The deadline for returning both forms is 12 January 2027. Keep this separate from choosing nursery sessions.
For children with SEND moving between classes, information and support plans pass to the next teacher. Children visit their new class, and a transition book or social story can be prepared where helpful. Familiarisation supports the move; it does not change the admissions process.
The 2024-2025 session arrangements were morning 08:30-11:30, afternoon 12:30-15:30 and full time 08:30-15:30. Morning provision carried 15 universal funded hours; parents ineligible for childcare vouchers could pay for the additional 15 afternoon hours. Payments used Parent Pay, monthly in advance. Contact the school for current charges.
