Nursery at Belmont Primary School

Morning and afternoon classes give Belmont’s nursery a clear session-based shape. There are 39 places in each class for children aged three to four, within Belmont Primary School in Guisborough. These are separate session capacities, rather than a promise of a full-day place.
The wider school occupies two buildings on a single site. Its grounds include a garden tended by children, a wildlife area and three playgrounds, with views towards the Cleveland Hills. That gives the nursery a school-site setting with substantial outdoor surroundings.
Making things, learning letters and exploring numbers feature in the early-years learning described in April 2023. Ofsted found the early-years curriculum effective, with children proudly showing ambulance models they had created and staff guiding their learning. This gives parents a concrete picture of practical activity alongside early literacy and mathematics.
The nursery’s curriculum materials include an EYFS Curriculum Map and an EY Curriculum Letter. EYFS means Early Years Foundation Stage, the nursery and Reception phase identified in the school’s staffing information. For parents, the map and letter are useful starting points for understanding the learning planned for their child.
Physical learning also involves safety. In April 2023, early-years children were learning to assess risks on climbing equipment, connecting movement with decisions about keeping themselves safe.
Settling was a strength in the April 2023 early-years findings: children became comfortable quickly, responded to adult direction and learned with capable staff. For a child beginning nursery, that combination matters because joining the group involves both feeling secure and learning its routines.
Belmont’s Golden Guidelines cover kindness, honesty, caring for equipment and moving safely. They give families concrete expectations to reinforce at home. Safeguarding responsibilities also include the Early Years’ Lead among the school’s deputy safeguarding leads, providing an early-years role within the wider safeguarding structure.
For additional learning needs, the school’s SEND coordinator can be reached through the main telephone number or school email. This gives families a direct route to begin discussing support.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process and meet the applicable deadline. Belmont’s admissions are coordinated by the local authority, and the governing body has adopted the authority’s admission criteria.
Treat choosing a nursery session and applying for Reception as two separate decisions. A place in the morning or afternoon nursery class should not be treated as confirmation of a later school place.
Both nursery classes use staggered start and finish windows. Morning starts run from 8:30 to 8:45, with collection between 11:15 and 11:30. Afternoon starts run from 12:30 to 12:45, followed by collection between 15:15 and 15:30. Build those windows into the family timetable rather than assuming one fixed handover time.

Belmont’s general uniform policy requires uniform for attendance and school-organised events unless otherwise specified; most items can be bought without an embroidered logo. That allows families to use ordinary uniform items rather than relying entirely on branded clothing.
