Nursery at Mount Stewart Infant School

Morning, afternoon or a full day: Mount Stewart's nursery gives families three attendance patterns within the infant school. There are 78 half-day places, divided into 39 morning and 39 afternoon places. Those are session places, so families considering a full day need to check availability for both sessions.
Provision covers three- and four-year-olds, alongside a limited number of places for two-year-olds. Younger children can attend with eligible funding or through paid sessions; staffing ratios restrict how many two-year-old places can be offered. The nursery sits within Mount Stewart Infant School, part of the Mount Stewart Federation.
Half-day attendance means five mornings or five afternoons each week. For children staying across both sessions, Lunch Club provides a supervised break between them. This makes lunchtime a separate part of the booking, with its own capacity and charge.
During remote learning, suggested activities are matched to children's developmental goals, and families can share photographs and observations through Tapestry. That connects activities at home with the child's learning.
A whole-school Incredible Eggs experience was planned for June 2026. Eggs were due on 8 June, with an incubator and then a brooding unit for the ducklings. The planned activities included watching development and gentle handling with adult supervision, giving children a concrete introduction to animal care and life cycles.
Before starting, families who have accepted a place are invited to a Welcome to Nursery Meeting in the preceding summer term. Staff then contact them during the term before entry to arrange the start. Occasionally, induction needs can lead to a later start, following discussion with the headteacher.
Toilet training involves an individual plan developed with parents. Nappy care. Enrolment of three-year-olds still wearing nappies can be limited when the nursery reaches its care threshold. Families are told that threshold at enrolment, making this a practical consideration before accepting a place.
Additional needs are assessed during enrolment, with parents consulted about the support the nursery can provide. Support capacity. Resource limits can lead to restrictions on further enrolment or changes to existing arrangements. At federation level, SEND support uses an Assess, Plan, Do and Review cycle involving parents, the teacher and SENDCO, so support is revisited rather than treated as a fixed plan.
Lunch can come from home or be supplied by the school for an additional charge. Packed food must exclude nuts and sesame; water is the recommended drink. Lunch Club supervision and the meal itself are charged separately, so families need to distinguish the two when planning full-day attendance.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place and gives no priority under the Reception oversubscription criteria. Families must make a separate application through Brent Council's eAdmissions route at www.eadmissions.org.uk.
For the September 2026 intake, the application deadline was 15 January 2026. That cycle is now past. Nursery attendance and the Reception application remain separate decisions: accepting a nursery place does not secure the next stage.
For children with SEND, federation transition arrangements can include additional classroom visits, photo books and social stories. These help make a change of classroom or teacher more familiar; they do not alter admission entitlement.
Morning sessions run from 8.35am to 11.35am, while the afternoon allocation model runs from 12.30pm to 3.30pm. Full-day attendance spans 8.35am to 3.30pm. Confirm the afternoon handover when arranging additional hours.
For three- and four-year-olds, the funded provision is 15 hours across 38 weeks. Eligible two-, three- and four-year-olds can take a 30-hour place, subject to availability, on a first-come basis and with a commitment to use all 30 hours at the school. Lunch Club remains an extra charge even when all 30 funded hours are used. Ask the school for current charges.
Additional sessions require advance agreement. Lunch Club takes a maximum of 30 children and prioritises those staying for additional hours; a lunch-only booking can end with two weeks' notice if space is needed for an additional-hours booking. Nursery enquiries go to admissions@tmss.org.uk or 020 8907 5113. School visits can be arranged through admin@tmss.org.uk.
There are places for three- and four-year-olds and a limited number for two-year-olds. Standard entry is normally the term after the third birthday; funded two-year-old entry is normally the term after the second birthday, subject to availability.
Yes, subject to availability. The full-day pattern runs from 8.35am to 3.30pm, with separately charged Lunch Club supervision between sessions.
Yes. A school lunch is also an option for an additional charge. Packed lunches must contain no nuts or sesame.
