Nursery at Beacon Hill Primary School

A nursery within a primary school puts the next stage of education close by, but choosing the nursery and securing a school place remain separate decisions. Beacon Hill Primary School has nursery provision in Hindhead, Surrey. It belongs to the Weydon Multi Academy Trust, with the Trust responsible for school admissions.
Visual routines are part of the wider school's approach to helping children understand their day. Across classrooms, visual timetables give children a consistent way to follow what happens next. Instructions can be shortened and tasks broken into smaller steps, making activities easier to understand for children who need additional support.
For learning and communication, the school uses visual prompts and introduces important vocabulary before an activity. These are concrete ways of making instructions more accessible. They describe the wider school's support approach rather than a separate nursery programme.
Families have a direct route to discuss additional needs: the school's special educational needs co-ordinator can be contacted through the office or at senco@beacon-hill.surrey.sch.uk. Support follows an Assess, Plan, Do, Review cycle, so decisions about a child's needs lead to a plan that is revisited rather than left unchanged.
Parents of children on the SEND Register receive their child's support plan. Targets are reviewed termly, and families can arrange further discussions with the teacher or SEND co-ordinator. That gives parents both a written account of support and a way to discuss changing needs.
Emotion Coaching and PACE are school-wide approaches. Staff use Emotion Coaching to help children identify feelings while keeping boundaries clear; PACE uses playfulness, acceptance, curiosity and empathy when a child becomes overwhelmed. These describe how adults respond, rather than an inspection judgement about effectiveness.
The school also runs a Cool Milk scheme, with free milk for participating children under five. Registration is through Cool Milk. For physical access, most of the school has ramps, and disabled toilets are provided; these are school facilities rather than a description of the nursery rooms.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. It gives no priority under the September 2027 admission arrangements. Families must make a separate application through their home local authority, using its Common Application Form. For September 2027 entry, the deadline is 15 January 2027; Surrey applications can be made online or on paper.
Transition support is a separate matter. School staff visit local nurseries and pre-schools to get to know children before they start. That contact can help adults understand a child's needs, but it does not change how Reception places are allocated. Keep the application deadline separate from any transition conversations.
The school office can be reached on 01428 605597 or at info@beacon-hill.surrey.sch.uk. Beacon Hill Primary School is on Beacon Hill Road in Hindhead, Surrey, GU26 6NR. For questions about the separate school application, the Trust admissions team can be contacted at admissions@wmat.org.uk.
