Forest School sites, an immersive classroom and a school farm give Flowery Field’s nursery a distinctive setting for play. This is the school’s own nursery in Hyde, within its Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) provision. The nursery has a Red Room and a Blue Room, each with a teacher, alongside a teaching assistant team.
The practical choice is between a morning session and a longer day in the 30 hour class. Both start at the same time, but their different finishing times matter when planning family routines.
Play shapes the learning. Within the EYFS, themes connect activities, and children combine experiences guided by adults with activities they choose themselves. In parent terms, there is room for children to follow an interest as well as take part in planned teaching. The school aims to develop independence and confidence through this approach.
Learning extends indoors and outside. The immersive classroom, Forest School sites and farm provide different surroundings for exploration, rather than keeping the nursery experience within one room. Flowery Farm houses pigs, goats and alpacas, as well as smaller animals. Those are concrete features of the setting children’s early-years experiences draw upon.
Early reading has a named approach: Little Wandle Letters and Sounds Revised. Phonics teaching begins in Nursery, with a sequence intended to build children’s understanding of how letters relate to sounds. Speaking and listening also receive attention, linking language development with later reading and writing. For families, that places early literacy alongside the nursery’s play-based experiences.
Teachers lead the Red Room and Blue Room, supported by teaching assistants. Beyond the nursery team, an early-years and infant learning mentor provides pastoral support. This gives families a pastoral role as well as classroom staff to approach about their child.
Special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) support has a coordinator and an assistant coordinator. The school is accessible to disabled users. Key messages and parents’ evening appointments are handled through My Child at School (MCAS), giving families a shared channel for school communication.
All staff receive child protection training. A designated safeguarding lead and two deputies handle concerns, establishing a school-wide route for raising worries about a child’s safety.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions route by the applicable deadline. Treat that application as a separate step when planning the move to school.
Morning nursery runs from 8:45am to 11:45am; the 30 hour class runs from 8:45am to 3:15pm. The longer pattern therefore requires a later collection. Enquiries can be made by telephone on 0161 368 1466 or through the school’s online enquiry form, and appointments to look around can be arranged.
Uniform is compulsory. Nursery children wear a blue sweatshirt, with dark trousers, shorts, a skirt or skort, and a plain white shirt or a white or blue polo shirt. Generic items and school-branded clothing are both accepted, giving families flexibility over where they buy them.
