Three-hour sessions give Cleveland Road's nursery a clear half-day rhythm. Children join either a morning or an afternoon group at the school on Cleveland Road in Ilford. Entry is normally in September after a child's third birthday. The school's September 2025 admission arrangements set out 72 part-time nursery places, split between morning and afternoon attendance.
Play and language give the day its shape. The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) brings together learning to communicate, physical development and relationships with early reading, mathematics, exploring the world and creative expression. That means learning extends beyond letters and numbers. The early years team plans around children's interests, individual needs and stage of development.
Music combines activities organised by adults with play that children start themselves. Children can lead an activity or take part with adult guidance, giving them opportunities both to make choices and to follow another person's ideas. Singing sits alongside other ways of expressing themselves.
Blocks and construction kits are used to build imaginary worlds; drawing and painting give children ways to represent feelings. Role play uses materials and props to explore stories and characters. Children also make things together, sharing resources and ideas, then explain how they created their work. These are concrete opportunities to practise communicating while making something of their own.
At the July 2024 inspection, Ofsted found that early years learning had a deliberate sequence of knowledge, skills and vocabulary, with songs, rhymes and stories supporting language development. For parents, the combination matters: creative play sits alongside planned learning rather than being a break from it.
Families have a direct route to the school's special educational needs and disabilities coordinator (SENDCo) through the office. The school provides additional support where needed, sometimes involving outside agencies. This gives parents a point of contact for discussing their child's needs.
A school Wellbeing Team includes a Senior Mental Health Lead and Emotional Literacy Support Assistants. Its remit includes advice and guidance for families as well as pupils and staff. Safeguarding concerns go to designated staff with training in child protection. These are school-level support arrangements, so they describe the wider team around the nursery rather than a separate nursery staffing model.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. The school's arrangements for September 2025 also explicitly said that not attending its nursery had no effect on a child's chance of obtaining a Reception place. Attendance therefore conferred no admissions advantage under those arrangements.
Families must make a separate Reception application through the local authority process. For Redbridge residents, the September 2025 cycle used an online Common Application Form submitted to Redbridge, with a deadline of 15 January 2025. That deadline has passed. Apply again for the relevant Reception intake through the normal route and meet that intake's deadline.
Monday to Friday, Nursery AM runs from 8:30am to 11:30am; Nursery PM runs from 12:30pm to 3:30pm. Children are allocated to one session. This is a practical consideration for family schedules: each group has its own start and finish, so plan collection around the nursery timetable.
Nursery applications go directly to the school, and application forms are obtained from and returned to the office. Parents considering a place can contact the school to arrange a visit. Telephone 020 8478 3601 or email admin.cleveland-prim@redbridge.gov.uk to make an enquiry.

No. Reception requires a separate application. The school's September 2025 arrangements also said that nursery non-attendance did not affect a child's chance of a Reception place.
