Nursery at Glade Primary School
Last reviewed: October 2026 · Inspection data and key information above update regularly, however, this review below is refreshed bi-annually and may not reflect recent changes. Contact the nursery directly to confirm current arrangements. If you spot anything outdated or inaccurate, please let us know.
Nursery sits within Glade’s shared early years team, with a phase leader whose responsibilities span Nursery and Reception. That gives the provision an organisational connection to the next stage of school. It is part of Glade Primary School on Atherton Road in Clayhall, Ilford, within Redbridge.
Children’s rights shape the wider school’s approach. The United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child informs its curriculum and culture, providing the school context in which the nursery operates.
Representation matters in that curriculum: books and poetry, alongside the authors and artists children study, are chosen with inclusion in mind. For families, this gives a concrete sense of the school’s priorities around identity and belonging.
The school grounds also contain a forest, a pond area and fire pits used for outdoor learning. These are substantial physical features of the wider setting. Glade links its outdoor approach to practical exploration and taking appropriate risks, with confidence, physical strength and spatial awareness among its aims.
Glade’s school-wide inclusion arrangements begin with observation and tracking from the start of children’s learning. Parents participate in decisions about their child, and specialist assessment can follow where further support is needed. This makes family involvement part of the support process.
The SEND team includes a SENDCo and Learning Support Assistants. Named intervention resources include Social Stories, Black Sheep Press and the Healthy Hands Programme. These sit within the wider school’s support arrangements; individual provision depends on a child’s needs.
Specialist help can involve occupational therapists, educational psychologists and speech and language therapists. Parental permission is sought for this process. Regular SEND reviews bring families together with the SENDCo and relevant professionals to discuss support and progress.
Physical access is addressed too. Ground-floor classrooms accommodate wheelchairs, and the school has a sensory room, an accessible toilet and paths into its woods. A school nurse advises staff and parents and helps prepare care plans for allergies and other medical conditions.
Attending Glade’s nursery does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process and meet the applicable deadline. Treat choosing the nursery and obtaining a school place as separate decisions.
For children with SEND, the school’s general transition arrangements include visits, photograph-based transition books and meetings with parents. Information sharing supports continuity of care; these practices should be considered separately from admission rights.
Contact the school office on 020 8708 0200 or email parentinfo@glade.redbridge.sch.uk for nursery enquiries. Families can also arrange a school visit through the office.
Site rules matter for anyone visiting: parents report to the office, while visitors sign in and wear identification badges. Permission is required to pass the inner reception doors. Around the school, families must keep zig-zag markings and residents’ driveways clear. Walking and cycling are encouraged, helping families plan their journey to Atherton Road.
