Sunshine and Rainbow give South Park’s nursery its own identity within the primary school on Water Lane in Seven Kings, Ilford. Morning and afternoon groups make this a provision shaped around shorter sessions. Morning and afternoon sessions have separate start and finish times, giving parents two published timetables to consider.
At the inspection on 31 January and 1 February 2024, Ofsted judged the school’s early years provision Good. That judgement covers early years within the school; it is not a separate nursery rating.
Each nursery session lasts from 8.15am to 11.15am or from 12.15pm to 3.15pm. Those clear boundaries give parents a concrete timetable around which to organise the rest of their child’s day.
Learning in early years builds towards later education through a planned sequence. In January and February 2024, staff had broken down the knowledge children would develop into successive stages. Children also understood the routines and what adults expected of them. For a parent, the combination matters: becoming familiar with school life sits alongside learning that has a clear direction.
Communication, independence, creativity and resilience are the school’s curriculum priorities. The school aims to help children express themselves respectfully, make choices about learning and recognise when they need help. These are school-wide aims, alongside the specific early years emphasis on preparing children for future learning.
Children in early years were settling successfully into school life in January and February 2024. Their familiarity with everyday routines was part of that picture, giving them an understandable structure as they adjusted to school.
For families needing additional support, the school aims to include children with special educational needs and disabilities fully in school life. A Parent Support Advisor offers confidential advice and helps families access other agencies. Parents can make contact through their child’s teacher or the office, so support has a practical route.
RM Unify is the school’s parent communication app. Parents sign in using the email address they have supplied to the school, with the office helping if access causes problems.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through the local authority, following the normal primary admissions criteria and the deadline for their child’s entry year. Treat this as a separate decision and application, even if your child already attends South Park’s nursery.
Shared events can introduce children to the next stage separately from admission. A Teddy Bears Picnic brought Nursery and Reception together on 8 July 2026, providing a shared occasion between the two groups.
The Morning Session runs from 8.15am to 11.15am; the Afternoon Session runs from 12.15pm to 3.15pm. Match the session to your family’s daily schedule before applying.
Nursery applications use a Microsoft form, with a copy of the child’s birth certificate emailed to admissions@spps.org.uk. Places are allocated in April or May before September entry, and families receive their allocation by email. Keep application details up to date because they are used in allocating places.
For general enquiries, contact office@spps.org.uk or telephone 0208 590 1496. Visits can be arranged by calling the office to make an appointment.
