Frogs gives Pilgrim Academy’s nursery its own name within The Pond of Possibilities, the school’s early years grouping. Nursery and Reception are grouped together here, with teachers and teaching assistants forming the class team. This places the nursery within the academy’s early years provision rather than in a separate childcare setting.
Based on Allerton Drive in Immingham, Pilgrim Academy caters for children from age three. The academy describes courage, respect and kindness as the values guiding its relationships and curriculum. For nursery families, these are the school’s intended starting points for learning how to relate to others.
Children taking a lead in their learning is the nursery’s clearest curriculum theme. Pilgrim values the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) as the beginning of children’s learning and development, and aims for children to enjoy their days through active involvement and choices. In parent language, the emphasis is on children participating in learning, rather than simply receiving instructions.
In June 2025, Ofsted found a positive beginning to education in the early years. One example involved children selecting materials to create a calculation, then applying their maths to solve it. Choice had a learning purpose. The activity linked selecting resources with putting number knowledge into practice, giving parents a concrete illustration of how early mathematical learning can work here.
Outdoor learning has a physical presence across the academy: wildlife areas, ponds, gardens and an outdoor classroom. These are school facilities, distinct from a claim about a nursery-only garden. They give outdoor learning a place within the wider setting’s curriculum.
A SEND co-ordinator and deputy work alongside the academy’s pastoral team. That structure gives families a contact route for discussing additional needs, with pastoral support connected to the school’s SEND work.
Emotional support includes therapeutic play for low-level needs. The academy also has a sensory room where children can take time away from class before returning to learning. Work with younger children includes recognising feelings and developing ways to respond to them. The practical emphasis is on helping children understand emotions and find coping strategies.
Parents can contact their child’s teacher or another member of staff, and the academy invites families to progress discussions and curriculum workshops during the school year. This creates opportunities for conversations about learning as well as support needs. Safeguarding concerns can be raised directly with the safeguarding team.
Attending Pilgrim’s nursery does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions route.
For the September 2026 intake, first-entry applications went through the child’s home local authority, with North East Lincolnshire Council coordinating that intake. Nursery attendance and a place in the school’s early years grouping should therefore be kept separate from the allocation of a Reception place.
Enquiries go directly to Pilgrim Academy on 01469 572 368. Families can also write to the academy at Allerton Drive, Immingham, DN40 2HP; written enquiries are passed to the appropriate staff member. This provides a straightforward route into the team for nursery enquiries and ongoing communication.
