Nursery at Oakworth Primary School

Play, outdoor exploration and learning to manage alongside other children give Oakworth’s nursery its character. The school aims to build independence as well as early learning, with its Ready, Respectful and Safe values introduced from the start. Children can join from age 3, choosing weekday mornings or, if eligible for government funding, a full weekday pattern.
This is Oakworth Primary School’s own nursery on Station Road in Oakworth, Keighley. Ofsted judged the school’s early years provision Good at the inspection of 13 and 14 December 2022. That judgement covers early years within the school; it is not a separate nursery rating.
Exploration and practical play shape early learning here. Classrooms and outdoor areas provide places to investigate, and children are encouraged to pose questions and attempt unfamiliar things. Oakworth’s early years approach gives social development and independence attention alongside reading and writing. For a young child, learning therefore includes how to get along with others and persevere when something takes another attempt.
Communication is a clear strength in the dated early years findings. In December 2022, the curriculum supported children’s communication effectively, with learning resources contributing to their development. Expectations for relationships and everyday routines also began in early years. These are useful foundations for children learning to express themselves and participate in a group.
Outdoor learning has a named destination: Within the Woods, the local Forest School site used by all year groups. This extends exploration beyond the classroom and school outdoor areas. Nursery also belongs to the Bronze stage of the Brontë Awards, which recognise enrichment experiences through badges, certificates and celebrations. The emphasis is on experiences as well as classroom learning.
Relationships are the starting point for Oakworth’s approach to helping children feel settled. The early years team aims to help children feel secure through connections with adults and other children, and to work alongside parents. The nursery’s stated aim is for children to feel happy and safe as they begin.
For children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), the school emphasises early identification and collaboration with families and external professionals. Parents’ and children’s views contribute to decisions about support, giving families a role in discussing their child’s needs. Trained designated safeguarding leads provide a contact for concerns about children’s welfare.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place and gives no additional priority. Families must make a separate application through Bradford’s central admissions process. Oversubscription priorities include care status, qualifying siblings and exceptional social or medical needs supported by a written professional recommendation explaining why Oakworth is the only suitable school and why no other school could provide appropriate support. Proximity decides between applicants within a category when demand exceeds places.
Apply through Bradford Admissions online or contact its Admissions Team. The cycle with National Offer Day on 16 April 2026 had an application deadline of 15 January 2026. Those dates are past, so they should not be treated as the timetable for a later application.
