Short sessions and a clear emphasis on communication give Hope’s nursery its practical shape. This is the nursery within Hope Primary School on Lordens Road in Huyton, a joint Catholic and Church of England school. Morning sessions run from 8.30am to 11.30am; afternoon sessions run from 12.20pm to 3.20pm.
Ofsted judged the school’s early years provision Good at the inspection on 12 and 13 December 2024. That judgement covers early years within the school. Children in this phase were making a positive beginning to their education, including those whose starting points were low.
Communication and language are a clear teaching priority in the early years. For parents, that puts the development of children’s ability to communicate near the centre of the educational picture. The December 2024 findings give this emphasis specific weight, alongside the positive start children were making.
The session pattern is straightforward: mornings run from 8.30am to 11.30am, with afternoons from 12.20pm to 3.20pm. Each session lasts three hours.
For children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), the school’s support arrangements include review meetings each half term. Parents discuss progress against agreed targets with the class teacher or SEND team, then agree the next targets. They also receive information about their child’s interventions and support. This gives families a recurring opportunity to contribute to decisions about learning.
An Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) brings an annual Person Centred Review involving the child and their parents or carers. School staff and relevant outside agencies contribute, with families able to express their wishes and discuss future targets. If a parent cannot attend a SEND review meeting, an alternative appointment can be arranged through the school office.
The school also has a SENCO and a Speech and Language Lead, reachable through its main telephone number or email. These roles provide specific contacts for conversations about additional needs and communication. Child protection procedures cover children in the school’s care; concerns are discussed with parents first unless doing so could compromise the child’s welfare.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process and meet the applicable deadline. Treat that application as a separate decision from choosing a nursery session.
Knowsley’s admissions Parent Portal provides the application route. The practical distinction matters: attending Hope’s nursery and receiving an offer for Reception are separate steps, so families should keep the Reception application on their planning list.
Longer hours. High demand means the nursery currently has no capacity for 30-hour places. Families needing that pattern should factor the restriction into their childcare arrangements before choosing a session.
