At a Glance

Year-round care and Forest School access define the plans for Kingsley Explorers, The Kingsley School’s new nursery in Leamington Spa. The opening was planned for September 2026, with provision for children from two years old and capacity for up to 62 children at a time. Its intended home is the ground floor of the existing Kingsley Preparatory School, putting nursery care within the school buildings.

Babies from six months are part of a later ambition, rather than the initial age offer. Families can choose the nursery alone: continuing into the preparatory school is an option to apply for, rather than a condition of joining.

The Nursery Day

Kingsley Explorers aims to build curiosity and confidence through imaginative play, discovering ideas and working together. Forest School access forms part of the plans, alongside learning indoors and outside. That gives the proposed day two distinct settings for exploration, with outdoor learning extending beyond the nursery rooms.

The ground-floor transformation was planned for the summer before the September opening. The school envisaged bright, colourful rooms for its youngest children. Longer and shorter days, plus morning and afternoon sessions, were also part of the offer, allowing families to choose between a session and a longer period of care.

The established early-years provision provides useful historical context. At the ISI inspection of 24 to 26 February 2026, children across early years progressed well in language and literacy, while number investigations and fluency activities developed mathematical understanding. This finding predates the planned Kingsley Explorers opening and covers early years collectively, rather than assessing the new nursery.

Within that earlier provision, resources inside and outside let children choose activities. Buying and selling through pretend play introduced the value of money, while physical apparatus gave children opportunities to test their movement skills. These are concrete examples of early learning: talking, investigating and practising through activity.

Care and Support

A dedicated nursery team was planned for Kingsley Explorers, drawing on experience within Kingsley and Warwick Schools Foundation. The nursery’s stated emphasis is on discovery and confidence, with kindness shaping how children learn together.

In February 2026, early-years children practised naming emotions and talking about their feelings, helping them express worries to adults. Taking turns and helping one another were also encouraged. Care routines had specific safeguards around medication, supervision while eating and mobile devices; early-years staff also had paediatric first-aid training. These findings describe the provision before the planned new opening.

Moving On to Reception

Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Contact the school’s admissions team about Reception entry, rather than assuming that nursery enrolment secures the next stage.

For Foundation and Reception entry, the school uses a brief morning assessment of a child’s suitability. Families considering Kingsley beyond nursery therefore need to plan for the school’s entry process as well as choosing their childcare sessions.

Practical Information

The planned Kingsley Explorers opening hours were 8am to 6pm daily, with year-round places. Morning or afternoon attendance and longer or shorter days were included in the plans. This structure is relevant to parents whose childcare needs extend beyond school terms.

Both 15-hour and 30-hour government funding were included for eligible families. Enquiries can be made at kingsleyexplorers.co.uk by leaving contact details for the admissions team. For current charges, contact the school’s Finance Office at billing@warwickschools.co.uk. Personal school tours can also be arranged through the admissions team on 01926 421368 or TKS-Admissions@warwickschools.co.uk.
