A full day or a three-hour session: Braunstone’s Foundation Stage 1 (FS1) provision gives families three distinct patterns within its primary school. The nursery sits at Cort Crescent in Leicester. Its school setting brings access to a wider support structure, including two special educational needs coordinators (SENDCOs).
For the 2026–2027 academic year, the full day runs from 8:45am to 3:15pm. Morning children attend from 8:45am to 11:45am, while the afternoon session begins at 12:15pm and finishes at 3:15pm. These are meaningfully different commitments for a young child, with the shorter sessions lasting three hours. FS1 lunchtime is scheduled for 11:20am to 12:20pm.
Communication is a central early-years focus. In February 2025, children were developing positive habits for learning, and adults helped them build the vocabulary to understand ideas and explain their thinking. The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum supported preparation for the next educational stage. For parents, the practical emphasis is on children gaining words they can use, alongside the skills needed to continue learning.
Home activities add some named detail. F1 resources include Jolly Songs and Five Little Monkeys, giving families songs to share with their children. CBeebies Radio supplies listening activities, while White Rose Maths is included for learning at home. These are home resources, rather than a description of the activities within each nursery session.
Two SENDCOs belong to the school’s senior leadership team and are qualified teachers. That gives families a defined point of contact for discussing additional needs within the school’s leadership structure. Leicester’s Local Offer also connects families with SEND services and explains responsibilities, including support for parents and carers themselves.
For worries about home life or relationships, the Green Button provides an email route to the person responsible for school safeguarding. Parents and carers can use it for concerns involving children or staff, including emotional difficulties and bullying. It is not continuously monitored and may go unchecked in school holidays, so families should understand that limitation before relying on it for a response.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place or confer priority under the school’s stated oversubscription criteria. Families must make a separate application through the local authority where they live, using the Common Application Form by 15 January.
When applications exceed places, allocation follows criteria covering care status, catchment residence, siblings, exceptional needs, children of staff and distance. Familiarity with the school therefore remains separate from the decision about a place. Keep the Reception application deadline in the family calendar even after a nursery place has been arranged.
Joining enquiries can be made through the school’s contact form. Alternatively, email office@dsatbraunstone.org or telephone 0116 285 8130. School visits can be arranged through the office, giving families a practical way to discuss joining.
Branded uniform and bags can be ordered through Brand Monkey. The Family Hub also provides free pre-loved uniform: office staff, pastoral staff or a class teacher can help families obtain suitable items. Children may bring a labelled water bottle and a book bag, useful preparations for the nursery day.
