Marvellous Me, Growing & Living and Come Outside give this nursery a recognisable thread: learning about yourself, living things and the world beyond the classroom. Scraptoft Valley Primary School’s nursery is its Foundation 1 provision, with children eligible from age 3 and an intake after the summer holidays. Between 26 and 52 places are offered, depending on uptake in each academic year.
A qualified teacher leads the teaching, assisted by a teaching assistant qualified at Level 3. This gives families a clear picture of the classroom team. In September 2022, Ofsted graded the school’s early years provision Good; that judgement covers early years within the school rather than a separately inspected nursery.
Orange and Yellow are the nursery groups named alongside the curriculum themes. Festivals & Celebrations joins the topics above, giving parents specific starting points for conversations about what their child is learning. The nursery follows the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), the curriculum framework for this stage of children’s learning and development. The school describes practical experiences and using physical resources as part of its teaching approach, helping children connect ideas with things they can handle.
In September 2022, early years activities had clear learning purposes, and children maintained their attention. Classrooms and an outdoor learning area with plentiful resources supported an atmosphere that combined activity with calm. For parents, the useful combination is space to explore alongside purposeful teaching.
Curriculum precision. The September 2022 inspection identified insufficient detail about the knowledge and vocabulary children should learn in a small number of subjects, including in early years. This matters because clear next steps help give activities a defined learning purpose.
Learning also extends beyond the classroom. A nursery outing to Oadby Gymnastics was scheduled for 16 March 2026, while Stonehurst Farm was the destination for a nursery trip scheduled for 17 June 2025. These are dated examples of planned experiences, rather than a promise about future trips.
Adult relationships were affectionate and supportive in early years in September 2022. Alongside the calm learning atmosphere, that gives parents a concrete picture of the interactions supporting children’s day.
Aspens prepares the school’s hot food on site, and packed lunches are also permitted. The school has a special-diet process covering allergies and intolerances. Its nut-free rule applies to lunchboxes too, so families need to consider ingredients when packing food. Current meal charges should be checked with the school.
For everyday contact, families can report absence through Schoolgateway or the telephone answering service. The school also provides access to Leicester’s SEND Local Offer and SENDIASS information, giving parents routes to information about additional needs.
Attending this nursery does not guarantee a Reception place. Parents must make a separate application to Leicester City Council, even when their child already attends Foundation 1. Nursery enrolment and entry to Reception are separate decisions, so families should apply through the normal local authority route by its normal deadline.
The 15-hour option can be taken as five mornings, Monday to Friday, from 9am to noon. Alternatively, children attend 9am to 3pm on Monday and Tuesday, followed by Wednesday morning from 9am to noon. The choice is between shorter daily sessions and concentrating attendance into the first part of the week.
Full-time attendance runs Monday to Friday, 9am to 3pm. The school offers these 30-hour places for children whose parents or carers work 16 hours or more, with further details handled by the office. This condition belongs alongside the longer-day option when families consider their arrangements.
Nursery applications use a pack collected from the school office, with a birth certificate or passport supplied for copying. Enquiries go to the office team on 0116 2413444 or admin@scraptoftvalley.leicester.sch.uk.
