On the Essex coast where the Thames estuary widens toward the North Sea, Leigh-on-Sea is a mid-sized seaside town with a population of around 23,000 people.

The railway station connects Leigh-on-Sea to Fenchurch Street, central London's eastern terminus, in approximately 50 minutes.
