Nursery at Anna Seward Primary

A nursery within a primary school gives Anna Seward’s youngest children a school setting from the outset. This is the school’s own nursery provision, based on Bridgeman Way in Lichfield and part of the Arthur Terry Learning Partnership.
Anna Seward Primary has no Ofsted graded rating yet. Families should therefore keep the school’s ambitions separate from an inspected judgement about its nursery provision.
A nursery teacher is part of the school team. Nursery teaching has its own role within the staffing structure, alongside the school’s teachers and teaching assistants.
Inclusion is a responsibility shared across the school’s staff, with support from an ATLP Hub SENCo. Anna Seward uses a Graduated Approach to identifying additional needs and works with parents and carers throughout that process. For a family considering nursery, that makes discussion of a child’s needs part of the school’s approach to support.
The areas of need covered are detailed. Speech and communication include understanding and using sentences, making sounds, and communicating through gestures, symbols or signs. Physical needs encompass both larger movements, such as balance and posture, and the precise movements of hands and fingers. These distinctions matter for young children whose needs may affect communication or physical participation.
Attention, memory and managing impulses also feature, alongside planning and organising. Social and emotional needs include recognising feelings, managing emotions and building relationships; sensory needs cover processing information from internal and external senses. The school treats additional needs as extending beyond difficulties with learning alone.
Anna Seward’s stated approach allows for extra support when teaching alone needs supplementing. It also emphasises identifying needs early and drawing on staff training and expert advice. These are school-wide arrangements, relevant to conversations about a nursery child’s support.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place at Anna Seward. A separate application is required through Staffordshire’s usual school application process. Treat nursery and Reception as two decisions, with a fresh application for the latter by the normal deadline.
For the September 2026 Reception intake, applications opened on November 1st through Staffordshire’s online route. That is a past intake. Families can also contact Staffordshire school admissions by telephone or email; the nursery place itself does not replace the Reception application.
For nursery enquiries, contact the school office on 01543 221317 or email contact-us@annaseward.atlp.org.uk. Registering interest uses a Microsoft Form.
The January 2027 nursery application window runs from 1st September 2026 to 1st November 2026. For an April 2027 start, it runs from 1st January 2027 to 1st March 2027. Applications may continue beyond the closing date if places remain.
January and April places cannot be reserved before their respective application windows open. Families planning a later start should therefore work to the relevant window rather than assume an earlier expression of interest holds a place.
No. Families must make a separate application through Staffordshire’s usual school application process.
