A woodland area, covered outdoor play space and a large classroom give Sir Francis Hill Nursery a distinct physical identity within its primary school. Built in 2016, its dedicated accommodation serves children aged 3-4. Indoor activities and outdoor play both have space here, rather than the nursery day being confined to a classroom.
The nursery belongs to Sir Francis Hill Community Primary School on Bristol Drive in Lincoln. At the Ofsted inspection on 8 and 9 July 2025, early years provision was graded Good. That judgement covers the school's early years provision; it is not a separate nursery inspection grade.
Play and stories give the learning its shape. In July 2025, children in early years developed curiosity through these activities, with communication and learning skills receiving particular attention. Children could explain what they were learning and describe skills they had acquired. The emphasis gives young children opportunities to put their experiences into words as well as take part in activities.
The large classroom is complemented by woodland and a covered area for outdoor play. These are concrete spaces for the nursery's play activities, giving families a useful picture of the setting their child will use.
Session choice also shapes continuity. For families using 15-hour funding, the nursery encourages a morning-only or afternoon-only pattern; for those eligible for 30-hour funding, it encourages full-time attendance. Its aim is to maintain continuity and cover the different areas of the early years curriculum. Split-week arrangements are also offered.
Relationships and routines were strengths in early years in July 2025. Children formed trusting connections with staff promptly, while established routines helped organise their day. Behaviour in early years lessons was generally settled and orderly. Together, these findings describe a reassuring start for children becoming familiar with school.
A school SENDCO also holds the designated safeguarding lead role. Support for additional needs. The July 2025 inspection raised a school-wide concern about insufficient adjustments to learning for pupils with SEND. That finding should inform discussions about the support an individual child needs, while remaining distinct from the positive early years findings.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place at Sir Francis Hill. Parents must submit a separate application online through Lincolnshire County Council; the school office cannot process Reception applications. Choosing the nursery therefore leaves a further admissions step to complete.
For September 2026 entry, the application window ran from 17 November 2025 to 15 January 2026. Those dates belong to a past intake. Nursery staff support parents and carers with the Reception application process, but that help does not secure a place.
Places are allocated for term-time attendance. Morning sessions run from 9am to noon, and afternoon sessions from 12.30pm to 3.30pm. Five core days, each running from 9am to 3pm, make up the full-time option.
Two split-week patterns use 15 hours: Monday and Tuesday core days plus Wednesday morning, or Wednesday afternoon plus Thursday and Friday core days. The nursery accepts 15-hour or 30-hour funding, with proof required and eligibility conditions applying to the latter. Additional hours can be purchased; contact the school for current charges.
Flexibility depends on capacity, and requested sessions cannot be guaranteed. Requests go onto a waiting list when the desired pattern cannot be accommodated immediately.
