Dollis starts its school community unusually early: the academy’s published age range begins at two and continues to eleven. The nursery is therefore school-attached provision on the Pursley Road site in Mill Hill, rather than a separately listed childcare provider. Ofsted records the school as mixed and non-religious. For a two-year-old’s family, the practical attraction is a first early-years setting within a primary-school environment.

The academy opened in September 2024, and Ofsted currently publishes only an academy-conversion letter for this new legal entity. There is no nursery-specific inspection judgement to report. Families should judge the day-to-day offer from a visit and the school’s current nursery information, not transfer the predecessor school’s rating to this provision.

The educational framework is clear even where the school’s detailed timetable is not. Like every English school, Dollis must follow the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) from birth to five. GOV.UK explains that young children learn mainly through games and play across communication and language, physical development, personal and social development, literacy, mathematics, understanding the world and expressive arts and design.

That means a useful nursery visit should show how children choose, talk, move, make and investigate, rather than resemble a shortened primary lesson. Ask to see the actual indoor and outdoor areas, how freely children move between activities, and how the routine balances child-led play with adult-guided work.

For children starting at two, care arrangements matter as much as the activity plan. Ask the nursery to explain its settling process, named key-person system, toileting support, snacks or meals, allergy management and communication with home. Families needing SEND support should discuss the child’s needs before accepting a place and establish who will coordinate adjustments. These conversations make the published EYFS promise of learning, development and care concrete for one child.

Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. A family must make a separate primary-school application through its home local council, including when applying to a school in another council area. Dollis’s nursery and Reception are distinct admissions stages, so familiarity with the site must not be mistaken for admissions priority.
