At a Glance

Curzon is built wholly around the early years: this is a maintained nursery school for children aged two to four, rather than a nursery class tucked inside a primary school. Ofsted recorded 110 children on roll in June 2025. The school also provides an on-site breakfast club and access to after-school and holiday provision, giving families options beyond the core nursery day.

The provision has a clear developmental arc. Younger children learn foundations which are reinforced and extended as they grow, while staff review the curriculum regularly and keep expectations high for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). It is a purposeful start, not a holding year before primary school.

The Nursery Day

Stories, sounds, rhymes and songs form the backbone of early literacy. Staff choose books and music around children's needs and interests, and a visiting musician works with children each week. Ukuleles, drums and other instruments are used for listening, attention, imaginative play and social development. A recent photography project asked children to capture their view of the world, then use the images to discuss thoughts and feelings.

The curriculum joins areas of learning together rather than treating them as isolated lessons. In Ofsted's June 2025 inspection, children sang, explored stories and played imaginatively; staff built knowledge and language while giving creativity room. Practical independence is equally visible. Younger children collect and return resources, while older children serve food, dress themselves, help prepare food and learn to resolve small conflicts.

Daily routines also cover healthy living, including tooth-brushing and healthy eating. Ofsted found routines well established and children increasingly confident in managing the day, making choices and organising shared play.

Care and Support

Staff find out about each child before they start, speaking with families about early experiences, interests and home languages. This gives the team a basis for identifying additional needs and tailoring support from the outset. Communication may include gestures, simple language and visual prompts; transitions between activities can be broken into smaller steps or supported with visual schedules and physical prompts.

Parents receive regular updates through meetings, newsletters and an online platform. Ofsted reported in June 2025 that staff knew children well, responded sensitively and helped them feel safe and secure. Safeguarding arrangements were effective at that inspection.

Mealtimes reinforce independence as well as care: older children serve their own food, and food preparation builds practical confidence. Families needing detailed information about allergies, menus or individual care routines should discuss these directly with the nursery before accepting a place.

Moving On to Reception

Curzon is a nursery school, not a primary school with its own Reception class. Children therefore move to a separate primary school after nursery. Attendance here does not guarantee a Reception place at any school. Whether it gives priority depends on each chosen school’s current published admission arrangements, which families should check before applying.

Families must make a fresh Reception application through their local council, even when applying for a school in another council area. The application is assessed under each chosen school's published admission arrangements. Curzon's curriculum prepares children for that next stage through early reading foundations, independence and communication, but educational preparation is separate from admissions.

Practical Information

The published inspection information places the age range at two to four and confirms both full-time and part-time places. Current session patterns, funded-entitlement arrangements, availability and any charged extras should be checked directly with the nursery, since these can change by intake and eligibility. Families can use the school's official website or contact the school at Curzon Crescent, London NW10 9SD to enquire.

The on-site breakfast club, together with access to after-school and holiday provision, may help families who need a broader day. Ask how each option is booked, which ages it serves and whether places are coordinated with nursery attendance before relying on it for childcare.
