Granville Plus is built entirely around early childhood: this is a community nursery school for children from birth to five, rather than a nursery room tucked inside a primary school. Children listen to stories, sing with actions, repeat words and act out familiar narratives; older children also begin learning letter sounds through a phonics programme. Adults model spoken language and revisit vocabulary, helping children turn remembered words into confident sentences.

The 2023 report also identified an important limitation: staff did not always make the most of activities and interactions to deepen knowledge, skills and vocabulary. The school's improvement task is therefore specific, not cosmetic. Consistency matters when so much learning happens through everyday conversation and play.

Security comes through adults knowing children and their families well. Parents told inspectors that staff helped children feel secure and happy, while routines such as sitting in groups were established quickly for the youngest newcomers. Children trusted adults for help, listened to one another and played safely.

Support for children with SEND is woven into teaching. Staff check understanding, identify extra help promptly, adapt activities and work with specialists when required. Constant modelling of spoken language helps children with SEND gain confidence in communication and new knowledge.

Independence grows through ordinary tasks, including clearing resources and hanging up coats. Children learn healthy eating at lunchtime and safe habits such as using a knife to cut vegetables. Safeguarding arrangements in 2023 included timely staff training, accurate records and work with external agencies; children went readily to trusted adults with concerns.

Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate primary-school application through their home local authority, using the published Reception timetable and admissions criteria.
