A morning in Tulip class brings together early number work, music and the beginnings of reading. This is Acton Gardens Primary School’s own nursery on Osborne Road in Acton, with a morning session running from 9am to noon. That compact timetable gives families a clear daily rhythm around which to plan.
At the Ofsted inspection on 20 and 21 May 2025, early years provision was graded Good, and nursery children were found to make a strong start in communication, social development and learning. The judgement covers the school’s early years provision rather than a separately inspected nursery.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) combines early learning with children’s social and communication development. Here, named teaching programmes give some concrete shape to that work. Little Wandle Letters and Sounds is used for daily phonics teaching in Nursery, introducing the relationship between letters and speech sounds. For parents, that provides a named approach to understand when supporting early reading at home.
Number learning starts small. In May 2025, nursery children were learning to recognise numbers and count up to five. White Rose Maths is the school’s approach from early years onwards, breaking mathematical ideas into smaller steps. The emphasis is on establishing those first concepts before building further understanding.
Charanga supplies the music programme for EYFS, where children experiment with movement, rhythm and sound through play. Religious education follows Ealing SACRE guidance: early years activities use music, art and stories to explore celebrations, family and belonging. These give young children ways to express ideas beyond early literacy and number work.
Parents can take an active part in settling. The EYFS routine invites them to accompany their child to class, remain to help them settle and participate in learning. This gives families a practical role while their child becomes familiar with the classroom.
Support for additional needs follows the school’s SEND policy. Depending on the child’s needs, help can be individual, in a smaller group or within the class. Parents of children on the SEND register are invited to review support each term, giving them regular opportunities to discuss progress and changes.
Physical access arrangements include a lift in the infant building, ramps serving the North and South buildings, and accessible toilets across the buildings. These are school facilities; they matter for families considering access around the site.
Attending this nursery does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process and meet the applicable deadline. Treat choosing the nursery and applying for Reception as two distinct decisions.
The nursery morning runs from 9am until noon. Session length. This is a three-hour morning, so families planning childcare around work need to account for a midday finish.
