Nursery at St Vincent's Catholic Primary School

Catholic prayer and reflection give this nursery its clearest character. Nursery children take part in the school's faith traditions, including the May procession honouring Our Blessed Lady and the Corpus Christi procession in June. St Vincent's nursery belongs to the Catholic primary school in Acton, making this a choice about religious life as well as early education.
Children learning English as an additional language are assessed using Development Matters in the early years. Their developing English is considered separately from special educational needs, an important distinction when deciding what support a child needs.
Prayer has a physical place in learning. Classrooms have a prayer focus containing religious symbols, prayers and artefacts, with moments of quiet reflection during the day. Nursery children can also join the annual faith processions, connecting classroom worship with shared school celebrations.
Visual timetables show children what the day holds. Some children also use picture-based Now and Next boards to help them change activities. These give a concrete way to understand what happens next. Across the school site, the playgrounds and forest school area have wheelchair access, alongside ground-floor rooms and toilets.
Settling begins before nursery starts. Foundation Stage staff make home visits, and contact a child's previous nursery where needed. If particular needs emerge, the SENCO arranges another meeting with parents. That gives families a chance to discuss support before classroom routines begin.
The school's SENCO holds National SENCO Accreditation and belongs to the senior leadership team. Support decisions involve the parent, class teacher and SENCO; possible help includes individual support, small-group interventions or involvement from speech and language, occupational therapy and educational psychology services. Parents' permission is sought before outside agencies become involved. Confidentiality may be broken when there are safeguarding concerns.
For children with SEND, the SENCO meets parents at least three times a year to review concerns and interventions. Provision maps are shared at each term's end, giving families the targets and support being used. Zones of Regulation is used across the school to help children recognise feelings and develop ways to manage them.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application: complete the local authority Common Application Form before submitting the school's supplementary application. For September 2026 entry, the deadline was 15th January 2026. That cycle has passed; it should not be treated as the deadline for a later intake.
Preparation for a new class is a separate matter. Children meet their next teacher before the summer holidays, and some have additional classroom visits. For children with SEND, staff share relevant information and resources with the new team. Some children can take home a Social Story about their next class, helping make the change more familiar.
Three attendance patterns cover five days each week: full-time sessions run from 8.30am to 3.15pm, mornings from 8.30am to 11.30am, and afternoons from 12.15pm to 3.15pm. The practical choice is between a school-length day and a shorter session, with a five-day pattern in either case.
Nursery enquiries go to admissions@stvps.co.uk. The school also has walking routes from Acton Town, North Acton and Ealing Broadway, useful starting points for planning the daily journey.
