Prayer frames each nursery session at Latymer All Saints, while stories, independent choices and outdoor play fill the day between. This is the school's own nursery in Edmonton, with a Church of England identity that reaches into everyday activities. Children choose resources for themselves, giving them opportunities to decide what to explore rather than relying entirely on adult direction.
Ofsted judged the school's early years provision Requires improvement at its inspection on 10 and 11 December 2024. That judgement covers early years within the school; it is not a separate nursery rating.
Daily carpet sessions and circle time bring children together to practise listening and communicating. Alongside these group activities, staff organise learning around children's interests. The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) combines language, relationships and physical development with early literacy, maths, creative work and exploration of the world. In parent terms, play and learning to manage everyday life belong alongside books and numbers.
Stories involve joining in with actions, retelling events and meeting unfamiliar vocabulary. The nursery names The Power of Reading as its approach to learning through texts. It identifies Little Wandle Foundations for Phonics, with Tuning into sounds and Rhyme time activities. These give children practice in listening and rhyming as preparation for later reading.
Counting objects, sorting and exploring shapes feature in daily maths activities. Children also have a teacher-led focus activity at least once during the week. Creative work uses Kapow Primary: the early years art plans include clay modelling, painting and collage, giving small hands opportunities to handle tools and materials. A spacious outdoor play area provides another place to explore, and nursery children participate in the school's annual skipping workshops.
Curriculum development. In December 2024, the early years curriculum and assessment needed further development. Learning goals were insufficiently clear, and the sequence for developing skills and knowledge was inadequately planned. Children consequently had gaps across areas of learning and were less prepared for their next stage than they should have been. These concerns matter alongside the activities described above: provision needs clear learning purposes as well as things to do.
Children settled promptly into early years routines in December 2024 and cooperated in play, including sharing and taking turns. Before nursery starts, parents are encouraged to practise everyday independence at home, such as dressing, eating and tidying toys. This gives families concrete ways to prepare their child for participation in the nursery day.
Tapestry provides an online learning journey that parents can access on a phone, tablet or computer. Families are encouraged to contribute photographs and observations from home, which staff use alongside their own observations when planning activities. The wider EYFS approach also includes discussing learning and development needs with parents and relevant professionals.
For children staying for additional time, parents should provide a packed lunch; a meal charge applies if lunch is not supplied. The school also requires children with medical needs to have an up-to-date care plan, with annual renewal. Its SEND information page links families to Enfield's Local Offer for SEND.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process and meet the applicable deadline. The school's admissions page links to Enfield Council's school admissions applications service.
Preparation for the next stage includes work on fine motor control and pencil grip. That learning preparation is separate from the decision about allocating a Reception place.
Families can check eligibility for funded childcare through the nursery admissions page's link to Enfield's Informed Families service. Additional nursery time can also be paid for directly when a family does not have a 30-hour code; payment is made at the office. Refer to the school for current charges.
The school office accepts enquiries by telephone on 020 8807 2679 or email at office@latymerallsaints.enfield.sch.uk. School visits can be arranged through the office, providing a direct enquiry route for families considering the nursery.
