Shared outdoor play and familiar adults give this nursery its character. At Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Primary School in New Southgate, nursery children sometimes learn alongside the older children in the early years setting, with staff planning together around children's interests. That makes the nursery part of a shared learning environment rather than an isolated class.
The provision opened in September 2025 and admits up to 30 children, with entry possible from a child's third birthday. It belongs to a Catholic school that welcomes applications from families of any faith and those with none. Ofsted's May 2026 judgement for early years was Strong standard; this covers the school's early years provision, rather than a separately graded nursery.
Children have both activities led by adults and time to choose their own learning. Sometimes they work as a class; elsewhere, smaller groups bring together children of different ages or abilities. Staff plan with individual development in mind, so the balance is between following children's interests and helping them take the next step.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) is the nursery's learning framework. Here, its practical shape includes group teaching, independent choices and access to the outdoor area shared with Reception. Mixing age groups gives younger children opportunities to tackle a challenge, while group teaching and daily activities provide additional help for those who need it.
Language receives close attention. In May 2026, adults used conversation skilfully to extend children's ideas and introduce vocabulary. Learning led by staff connected with activities children pursued independently, and children sustained their attention. Established routines also helped them understand what to do next. For a parent, the significant combination is purposeful adult involvement alongside room for children to make choices.
Additional needs are recognised promptly in early years, with effective help put in place. Progress is monitored and families receive updates, making communication part of the learning process. Partnership mornings give parents and carers an opportunity to take part in activities with their child, rather than only hear about them afterwards.
For concerns about learning, the class teacher is the first contact, with referral to the special educational needs coordinator where appropriate. Families can also contact the SEND team at send@ololschool.enfield.sch.uk. The school's learning-plan system allows parents with a password to view their child's plan and add comments.
Lunch can be supplied through HCL (Hertfordshire Catering Ltd), with a charge for nursery meals. The school operates a nut-free policy. Packed lunches must exclude nuts and products that may contain them, so allergy precautions also apply to food brought from home.
Familiarity supports the change of class: shared outdoor space, joint planning and contact with the early years adults give children continuity. These practical connections are separate from admission.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process. The school's route combines an online application through eAdmissions with a school Supplementary Information Form, returned in person with the required original evidence. For the September 2026 intake, the on-time deadline was 15 January 2026; that cycle is now past.
Three attendance patterns are offered: 8am to 6pm, 8.45am to 3.15pm, or mornings from 8.45am to 11.45am. The shorter morning provides a different daily commitment from either full-day option. Nursery applications go to the school office using the nursery admission form.
Visits can be arranged through office@ololschool.enfield.sch.uk or 020 8361 0767. Nursery uniform includes a logo polo in pale blue, a grey logo cardigan or sweatshirt, navy tracksuit bottoms and trainers. Wellington boots are also listed for nursery children. Pre-loved uniform can be requested through the office, subject to stock.
