Nursery at Adamsrill Primary School

Hands-on exploration and outdoor learning shape the nursery offer at Adamsrill, with a five-day rhythm rather than hours that families can rearrange. This is the school's own provision for children aged three and four, on Adamsrill Road in Sydenham.
The school describes a mix of 16 full-time and 18 part-time places, subject to demand and review. It also gives capacity for 26 children in each morning or afternoon session. Families should confirm which pattern has a place before organising their childcare around it.
Practical exploration is central to the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum. Children investigate, try things out and take manageable risks through hands-on experiences. The outdoor learning area can be used throughout the day, so learning outside is part of the offer rather than confined to a single break.
The seven learning areas combine language and communication, physical skills and social development with literacy, maths, creative expression and understanding the world. For parents, that means the nursery curriculum reaches beyond early reading and counting: developing independence and curiosity are also explicit aims.
Read Write Inc is the named phonics approach used in the school's EYFS provision. In June 2025, Ofsted described nursery children learning to tell environmental sounds apart as preparation for reading. Listening comes first. Nursery phonics updates in the 2026 school bulletin also included short videos for use at home, giving parents a practical connection with what children were learning.
September starts are staggered, and nursery children receive a home visit before they begin. That creates an opportunity to introduce the family before the new routine starts. The wider early years team includes an early years practitioner and teaching assistants.
Children taking a 30-hour place need a packed lunch each day. Fresh fruit and milk are provided daily for nursery children without an extra charge. Lunchboxes must exclude nuts and nut products; the school's restrictions also include sesame seed rolls. Families preparing lunch need to follow those rules as well as their child's dietary needs.
SEND support sits within the school's arrangements. The class teacher, SENCO and parents agree the intended outcomes, support and review date together, giving families a defined point at which to discuss progress. The school is wheelchair accessible and makes adjustments for children with medical needs. Arbor Parent App is the school's main communication route, carrying messages and allowing families to update contact information and consent forms.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place at Adamsrill. Families must make a separate application through Lewisham Borough, whose Education Admissions Team allocates places. Treat that application as a separate task, even when your child already attends nursery.
The school's September intake is staggered and includes home visits. Those starting arrangements concern settling into school; they do not secure admission to Reception.
Morning sessions run from 9:00am to noon, afternoons from 12:30pm to 3:25pm, and full-time attendance from 9:00am to 3:25pm. The school describes these as 15-hour part-time or 30-hour full-time patterns. Each runs across five days in term time.
Fixed attendance pattern. Hours cannot be compressed into fewer days or combined flexibly. Families needing childcare on selected days should weigh that restriction before applying.
Eligible funded attendance carries no additional nursery attendance charge, with a valid childcare code required where the 30-hour entitlement applies. Families without that extended entitlement can buy the additional hours, arranged through ParentPay at the beginning of each term. Contact the office for current charges.
Nursery applications are handled by the school through its online application link. Enquiries can go to admissions@adamsrill.lewisham.sch.uk or 020 8699 8548. The school's breakfast and after-school services are for Reception through Year 6, so these do not extend the nursery day.
