Morning nursery or a full school day: Holy Trinity gives families two attendance patterns within a Church of England primary school on Dartmouth Road, Forest Hill. Children must be three when they join. Provision runs during term time, so families need a separate plan for school holidays.
The Christian ethos comes with an explicit welcome to families of any faith and those with none. For parents choosing a school nursery, that combination matters: the religious character is part of the setting, rather than an entry requirement for every nursery family.
Practice and independence are the clearest themes in the early years. Ofsted’s February 2024 inspection described a positive early start, with repeated chances for children to apply their learning and become more independent. That gives parents a useful focus: developing what children can do for themselves alongside what they know.
There was also a curriculum concern. The same inspection identified gaps in understanding caused by curriculum planning weaknesses in some foundation subjects. It required learning to be securely ordered across every subject, starting in early years.
Lunch gives families a choice. The nursery application form offers a packed lunch or a paid school lunch, with the school providing a hot meal. Dietary requirements, medication and medical information are collected on the form, allowing families to share care needs before attendance begins.
For children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), the school’s September 2025 information report sets out planning before entry where a need is already identified. Staff contact the professionals involved and discuss support with parents. Classroom help can include adapted materials, individual adult support or work in a small group; the SENCO coordinates provision with teachers and other agencies.
Toileting and access. The application form requires children to be potty trained before joining. The admissions policy also warns that the site can present access difficulties for some children with disabilities. These are practical considerations to address before accepting a place. The wider school has a disabled toilet downstairs and an accessible playground, but these features should be considered alongside each child’s particular needs.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place and gives no priority under the school’s 2027-28 Reception criteria. Families must make a separate application through their home local authority using eAdmissions by the end of 15 January 2027. Applications relying on Christian church attendance also require the supplementary form to reach the school by that date.
Transition support is a separate matter. For children with SEND moving between classes, information goes to the next teacher beforehand. A transition group or extra classroom visits may be arranged where appropriate, helping a child prepare for the change rather than affecting admission rights.
Full-time places run from 8:45am to 3:00pm. The first 15 hours are funded. Funded 30-hour places are limited and require an eligibility code for confirmation. Paid full-time extensions are also limited and require attendance on all five days each week. Ask the school for current charges.
Bookings carry obligations. Session changes need written notice of one month and depend on availability. Unfunded hours are payable ahead of the following half-term through ParentPay, and booked additional hours remain chargeable if a child is absent. This makes the attendance pattern a financial commitment as well as a timetable choice.
To register, complete the nursery form and supply a birth certificate and address evidence. Enquiries go to the school office at admin@holytrinity.lewisham.sch.uk or 020 8699 9023. School tours can be booked through the admissions page.
Children must be three years old when they join. Funded eligibility begins in the term after their third birthday.
