A morning, an afternoon or a full school day: Perrymount’s nursery gives families three session options from age three. This is the nursery class within Perrymount Primary School on Sunderland Road in Forest Hill. Part-time and full-time places serve different routines, with a choice between a shorter session and a day that includes lunchtime.
Counting and spotting number patterns are concrete parts of the learning here. In March 2023, Ofsted described nursery children practising both, giving them early experience of numbers and how they relate to one another. That is a useful example of what early mathematical learning involves: children work on recognising patterns as well as counting.
The session structure gives the day its practical shape. Morning and afternoon places each provide three hours; the full-time option spans both sessions and the interval between them. For families choosing a shorter day, the two part-time options allow nursery to fit either side of lunchtime.
Lunch brings a choice for children attending full time. Families can send a packed lunch or choose a school dinner, with an additional charge for the school meal. This lets parents decide whether to provide food themselves or use the school’s meal service.
There is also an option to spend lunchtime at home. Parents can collect their child at 11.45am and return at 12.30pm. That keeps the two learning sessions while making the middle of the day a family responsibility. Lunchtime supervision falls outside the funded hours and carries a separate charge when used.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through the Lewisham Admissions Team, using an online Common Application Form within the application window. Choosing the nursery therefore requires a later school application too.
Nursery attendance is not among the Reception priorities in Perrymount’s admission policy. The listed criteria cover children in public care, exceptional acute medical or social circumstances, siblings and proximity to the school. The sibling criterion has its own conditions: the sibling must be on the school roll at the application closing date and still attending at the intended admission date.
These rules matter even for a family whose child already attends the nursery. Familiarity with the school does not replace the application process or the allocation criteria. Plan for Reception as a separate decision, rather than treating a nursery place as a reservation.
Morning sessions run from 8.45am to 11.45am; afternoons run from 12.30pm to 3.30pm. Full-time places run from 8.45am to 3.30pm. Those finishing times are useful anchors for planning collection and the rest of the family’s day.
Each child holding a nursery place receives 15 hours a week. The school describes an additional 15 funded hours for working parents, bringing that option to 30 hours. Funding enquiries go through the school office. Lunchtime costs. Funded hours exclude lunchtime cover, and school dinners also attract an extra charge. Contact the school for current charges when comparing the full-day option with part-time attendance.
