Nursery at Ravenscroft Primary School

At a Glance

Listening closely and learning together give Ravenscroft’s nursery its clearest educational character. In January 2025, children were developing attentive listening and collaborative learning from the early years. Those habits matter for a child beginning to take part in shared activities, rather than simply playing alongside others.

This is Ravenscroft Primary School’s own nursery, on Carson Road in Canning Town. Morning and afternoon placements offer two distinct session options. At the Ofsted inspection on 14 and 15 January 2025, early years provision was judged Outstanding. That judgement covers the school’s early years provision, rather than a separately inspected nursery.

The Nursery Day

The curriculum begins in the early years, with knowledge and skills organised into a planned sequence. The educational emphasis is on building learning step by step: what children learn first prepares them for what follows. For parents, that gives the nursery a place within the school’s longer teaching programme.

Learning also involves practising how to participate. In January 2025, attentive listening and cooperation were established features of children’s learning from the early years. These are useful foundations for following an activity and working with other children. The clearest picture here is of early learning that includes both knowledge and the habits needed to use it.

Care and Support

Families have contact routes to the school’s special educational needs coordinator (SENCO), safeguarding team and Resource Provision. General enquiries go through the school office. These routes give parents a practical starting point for raising a concern with the relevant team, including questions about their child’s individual needs.

Moving On to Reception

Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions route and meet the deadline for their child’s entry year. Treat that application as a separate task, even while your child attends the nursery.

Reception applications go through Newham, with the Pan London e-admissions portal as an application route. The school has adopted Newham’s determined admission arrangements. Nursery enrolment and a Reception offer are therefore separate decisions: choosing the nursery should be about the provision itself, rather than an assumption that a school place follows automatically.

Practical Information

The nursery offers a morning placement or an afternoon placement. For families eligible for the 30 hours funded entitlement, the school office provides help. Eligibility matters: that assistance is specifically for families who qualify for the entitlement.

Children can join the nursery waiting list from their second birthday. Parents obtain an application form from the school office; joining the list does not guarantee a nursery place. The school aims to offer children at least three terms in nursery before school entry, so the waiting-list process is useful to distinguish from a confirmed offer.

For nursery enquiries, contact the school on 020 7476 2454 or email info@ravenscroft.boleyntrust.org. The address is Carson Road, Canning Town, London E16 4BD.
