Nursery at St Francis' Catholic Primary School

A morning or an afternoon in nursery, with a place in the school's Catholic life: that is the shape of the nursery class at St Francis' Catholic Primary School in Stratford. Applications are welcomed for children aged 3 to 4, from families of all faiths and backgrounds. The nursery belongs to the school's Foundation Stage teaching structure.
Peace, Love, Knowledge is the school's motto. The school aims to make prayer, sharing, forgiveness and truthfulness part of children's experience, and values partnership between parents, school and parish. For families choosing this nursery, its religious character is part of the setting's identity.
Morning sessions run from 8:45am to 11:45am; afternoon sessions run from 12:25pm to 3:25pm. These give families two distinct session patterns around which to organise their day.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) brings children's learning and care together. Its seven areas cover relationships and emotions, language and communication, physical development, literacy, mathematics, understanding the world, and expressive arts and design. That means early learning encompasses how children communicate and interact as well as their developing knowledge.
Performance gives a concrete example of nursery activity. In December 2024, nursery children joined Reception children for a Christmas Nativity involving dance, song and acting. It brought the story of Christ's birth into a shared performance. Nursery Sports Day was scheduled for 24 June 2026, while International Day for Nursery and Reception was scheduled for 3 July 2026: examples of nursery-specific occasions within school life.
Foundation Stage staffing includes teachers and class support staff. For children with special educational needs, the school's SENCO provides guidance and support and can be contacted through info@st-francis.newham.sch.uk. This gives parents a direct contact for discussing their child's needs.
Safeguarding responsibilities include a designated lead and a deputy. The school also participates in Operation Encompass: following a reported domestic abuse incident, police notify the school by 11am the next morning, and staff decide what support the child needs. The arrangement connects information about difficulties at home with support in school.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Parents must make a separate application through the normal Reception admissions process, including when their child already attends this nursery.
Applications go through the family's home local authority. Newham residents apply through the London Borough of Newham; families elsewhere apply through their own borough and name St Francis' as a preference. For September 2025 entry, the application deadline was 15 January 2025. That was a past admissions cycle.
Nursery applications are completed and returned directly to the school. This differs from the local authority route for Reception, so families need to keep the two processes separate.
