Nursery at Ark Globe Academy

Nine months is the starting age for the on-site Ark Start Nursery at Ark Globe Academy in Elephant and Castle, Southwark. That makes the provision relevant to families with babies as well as those considering the step towards school. The nursery sits on the academy site, but choosing childcare here and securing a school place are separate decisions.
The distinction matters when assessing inspection judgements too. Ofsted awarded the academy’s early years a Strong standard in May 2026; that is a school early-years judgement, rather than a separate rating for Ark Start Nursery.
Across the academy’s early years, language development receives deliberate attention in teaching. In May 2026, children were learning successfully, including those with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND) and those facing disadvantage. For parents, the useful emphasis is on communication alongside learning: developing language helps children take part in what is being taught.
Support for additional needs follows the academy’s Assess, Plan, Do, Review model. The SENCO works with teachers to recognise needs early and decide on interventions or specialist help. Progress is then monitored to adjust support to the child. Families considering the nursery can distinguish this school support framework from the individual arrangements their child may need.
Physical access has practical features: ramps serve all buildings, and accessible toilets include grab handles and emergency cords. These details matter for families with mobility needs. They describe access across the academy site, rather than the layout of a particular nursery room.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through the normal admissions route. For September 2027 entry, Southwark residents apply through Southwark Council; families living elsewhere apply through their home local authority. The deadline is 15 January 2027.
Attending the nursery gives no Reception priority under the 2027/28 arrangements. Places are allocated using the applicable admission criteria, so being familiar with the site does not secure an offer. Treat the nursery choice and the Reception application as two distinct steps.
Preparation for school is a separate matter from allocation. The academy’s 2026 Reception transition programme included family meetings and a stay-and-play session to introduce children to teachers and peers. Those activities supported familiarity; they did not replace the application process or confer an admissions advantage.
