Nursery at Broomwood Pre-Prep & Broomwood Prep-Girls

Last reviewed: October 2026 · Inspection data and key information above update regularly, however, this review below is refreshed bi-annually and may not reflect recent changes. At a Glance

Garden access straight from the classrooms gives Little Broomwood a distinctly outdoor character. This mixed pre-school for children aged three and four occupies The Vicarage at 192 Ramsden Road, within Broomwood Pre-Prep. Children can move between classroom activities and the garden rather than treating outdoor learning as a separate outing.

An April 2026 announcement set out plans for a third nursery classroom from September 2026. That expansion concerns the youngest children’s teaching space, rather than the wider school’s capacity.

The Nursery Day

Play takes two forms here: activities children choose and activities adults organise. The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) connects early reading and number work with language, movement, relationships, creativity and discovering the world. Specialist teachers introduce French alongside art, sport and music. Children therefore meet different subjects while their learning still centres on play.

The Five Learning Powers give that approach a named framework: confidence and independence sit alongside resilience, curiosity and communication. In the June 2025 ISI inspection, early-years teaching supported children’s independence, with activities and equipment adapted to their interests and needs. Adults used questions and role play to extend understanding and vocabulary, helping children explain their ideas and listen to one another.

Welly time makes the outdoor offer concrete. Children build dens, make tree rubbings and mix imaginary potions in the mud kitchen. The adventure playground includes a maze; a March 2025 account describes children using it for a Lunar New Year dragon dance. Outdoor play becomes a way to explore ideas together.

Trips include the theatre, woods and library. Book Week, French Day and Earth Day bring nursery children into shared school events, while visiting professionals lead storytelling, dance and drama activities.

Care and Support

Each child has a designated staff member looking after their wellbeing. Parents can join Stay and Play or Come and Learn sessions, attend parents’ evenings and receive written progress reports twice yearly. Those different forms of contact connect family involvement with discussion of the child’s development.

Settling is planned. In June 2025, early-years arrangements helped children become familiar with school and their next class; supervision covered rest and play as well as the beginning and end of the day. Staff had training specific to early-years safeguarding and special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), with a paediatric first aider available throughout.

Food is part of the routine. Breaktime choices include vegetables, biscuits and fruit, with water or milk to drink. Children attending a full day receive a hot meal prepared on site. The catering team has food-safety training for dietary needs, and options include kosher, halal, vegetarian and vegan meals. Learning support is considered individually, with relevant assessments and existing professionals informing the arrangements.

Moving On to Reception

Nursery attendance and Reception admission are separate decisions. Broomwood’s admissions arrangements give Little Broomwood children priority for Reception, but attendance does not provide an unconditional guarantee of a place. The nursery describes automatic progression when it is in the child’s best interest. Existing Little Broomwood families should confirm any registration steps with Admissions. For Reception applicants, the school publishes a main registration form and a visit-and-register deadline of September after the child’s second birthday, with offers made in October.

Preparation for the next class is a separate matter. Early-years staff plan transitions so children can become comfortable with their new surroundings. Familiarity supports the move; it should not be confused with an admissions entitlement.

Practical Information

Autumn and spring attendance starts with five mornings each week, with afternoons optional. The nursery-specific timetable gives arrival between 8.15 and 8.30am, morning collection at noon and full-day collection at 3pm. Confirm Friday collection with Admissions: the general Pre-Prep timetable gives a 3.15pm finish for all years on Fridays. Summer brings a bigger commitment: five full days are expected, with one fixed afternoon off permitted.

The nursery’s care timetable offers Teatime club from 3 to 3.45pm, including a snack, followed by after-school care until 5.45pm with light tea. These sessions carry additional charges. Little Broomwood pupils qualify for the Government’s Early Years Funding Scheme covering 15 hours weekly; contact Admissions for current charges and funding arrangements.

Schoolblazer supplies the uniform, which also forms part of the later Pre-Prep sports kit. Enquiries go to admissions@broomwood.com or 0208 682 8830, and families can book a Friday group tour or a bespoke visit. Parking around the school sites is very limited, making the collection journey a practical consideration.
