Nursery at Honeywell Infant School

Dedicated nursery grounds give Honeywell’s youngest children a space of their own within the Infant School in Battersea. That is the defining physical feature here: nursery provision attached to a school, with outdoor space specifically for its youngest group. Children can start in the autumn after turning three, with a choice of morning or full-time attendance.
Ofsted graded the school’s early years provision Good at its January 2023 inspection. This judgement covers early years within the school, rather than a separately inspected nursery.
Learning has a theme families can follow. The nursery’s Topic Webs include Animal Magic! for spring 2026 and Pirates and Mermaids for summer 2026. These termly outlines give parents a practical way to connect conversations at home with what their child is studying. A nursery curriculum map and teacher-recommended reading sit alongside them.
Language development has concrete substance. In January 2023, early years children could remember vocabulary for fish anatomy and describe castle features, including a drawbridge and moat. These examples show children learning precise words to explain what they notice. Early years children also took part in drama workshops regularly, adding another way to use language and imagination.
Across early years, children were developing skills and knowledge securely across the areas of learning. There was a teaching caution, too: some learning across the school needed smaller steps, and connections between successive year groups needed strengthening. For parents, the useful distinction is between having a learning goal and making each step towards it clear.
Families have several routes into support. Honeywell’s SEND arrangements include teaching adapted to individual needs, additional classroom help and specialist resources. SEND Support Records explain the support, its frequency and the child’s targets, giving parents something concrete to discuss with staff. The Infant SEND team can be contacted at infant.sen@honeywell.wandsworth.sch.uk, and Wednesday drop-ins run from 3pm to 3.30pm.
Medical care starts with information from home. Parents complete a Pupil Health Conditions Information form for relevant conditions and a Medication Agreement form when medicine needs to be kept at school. Families remain responsible for keeping supplied medication in date.
Food is prepared at school, and menus identify allergens. For children registered with the Cool Milk scheme, a chilled carton reaches the classroom daily; milk is free for under-fives. The Early Years After-School Club also provides a light meal, which is not intended to replace the evening meal at home.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate application through the borough where they live, following that authority’s normal application timetable. Wandsworth residents use Wandsworth’s Schools and Admissions route; families elsewhere apply through their home local authority. Treat choosing the nursery and applying for Reception as separate decisions.
Morning attendance runs from 9am to noon; full-time attendance runs from 9am to 3.30pm. Session allocation. A nursery offer may come with a different session from the one requested. Families whose working day depends on a particular pattern should take that condition into account.
The nursery describes a universal 15-hour funded entitlement for three- and four-year-olds. Additional full-time hours attract a termly top-up charge, while some full-time places accept 30-hour funding for eligible families. If eligibility ends, remaining charges become payable. Contact the school for current charges.
For an extended afternoon, the Early Years After-School Club runs on weekdays, 3.30pm to 6.30pm, during term time on full school days. Its base is the renovated Infant Hall, with access to the Discovery Garden and Pirate Ship Garden. Children can leave before the session ends. MagicBooking handles registration and bookings, with places allocated in booking order; registered children can book occasional sessions subject to space, by 12.30pm that day, with payment required when booking.
General enquiries go to office@honeywell.wandsworth.sch.uk or the Infant School office on 020 7228 6811. Clothing should be suitable and labelled with the child’s name, and the home-school agreement asks families to collect promptly.
Children can join in the autumn term after their third birthday.
