Nursery at Lime Tree Primary Academy

Songs, stories and learning to share bikes give Lime Tree’s nursery its clearest character: language development alongside the everyday business of playing together. The provision forms part of Lime Tree Primary Academy on Parkside Drive in Houghton Regis. In February 2024, Ofsted graded the school’s early years provision Good.
The 2023 nursery arrangements described 90 places, divided into 45 morning and 45 afternoon places. Entry was usually in the term following a third birthday, or a second birthday for children receiving two-year funding, subject to applications and space.
Language learning starts with activities children can join in: adults use songs and stories from Nursery to extend their vocabulary. In February 2024, the early years curriculum gave children opportunities both to acquire skills and to pursue their interests. For parents, that combination matters: children have room to explore, with adults helping them develop the language to express what they discover.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) supplies the curriculum framework. Here, its practical expression includes learning social routines as well as developing language. In February 2024, early years children shared toys and bikes and practised sticking with an activity. Taking turns is part of the learning.
Support for special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) uses the school’s cycle of assessing needs, planning help, putting it into practice and reviewing its effect. Individual profiles and plans are reviewed each term with families. That gives parents a role in deciding next steps, rather than simply receiving an update.
In February 2024, inspectors found that the school’s checks on the overall impact of SEND support were not sufficiently established. Ask how staff will measure whether your child’s agreed help is working.
Help can include adapting equipment, working in smaller groups and supporting personal care, including dressing, eating and toileting. The school also maintains a nurture space for all pupils. These are elements of the school’s support framework; the practical question for a family is how the agreed help fits their child’s nursery session.
Parents can discuss concerns with the class teacher and SEND coordinator. A Parent Support Worker can connect families with further support. For children needing specialist input, the school can seek advice from services including speech and language therapy and Jigsaw behaviour support, with parental permission.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate starting-school application through their home local authority, using its online or paper process and meeting the normal deadline.
For September 2027 entry, nursery attendance is not an oversubscription priority at Lime Tree. Choosing the nursery should therefore be a decision about the child’s early education, with the Reception application treated as a separate family task.
Where a child needs a phased start to Reception, individual arrangements can be made. Information about strategies that help a child learn is passed on at transition, providing continuity in support rather than an admissions advantage.
Nursery enquiries go directly to the school: contact admin@limetree.academy or telephone 01582 863859. This is a separate process from applying for the main school.
Under the 2023 arrangements, part-time attendance meant five morning sessions or five afternoon sessions. Those arrangements also included full-time places for children eligible for 30 hours of funded childcare.
No. A separate starting-school application is required, and nursery attendance is not a priority under Lime Tree’s September 2027 oversubscription criteria.
