At a Glance

Communication aids, sensory spaces and individual care plans shape the setting around Manor Green’s youngest children. Nursery provision sits within a specialist day school in Maidenhead, with an Early Years team and a Foundation Stage group called Ladybird in First School. This is provision for children whose learning and care require specialist approaches.

An Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP) normally forms the basis of a placement, although exceptional assessment placements can be made before statutory school age. For families, the important starting point is how the child’s needs translate into teaching, equipment and everyday support.

The Nursery Day

Personalised learning connects education with the support a child needs to participate. Across Manor Green, children have individual targets and programmes, with Progression Plan targets renewed each term. In First School, children work on managing themselves, building relationships and developing self-help and independence skills. The Early Years Foundation Stage framework guides assessment alongside the progressive PSHE stages.

Choose to Nurture Enterprise is the school’s named curriculum model, bringing together personal choice, wellbeing and preparation for greater independence. Alongside it, SCERTS addresses social communication, emotional regulation and the support needed around the learner. These are school approaches; each child’s programme is adapted to their needs.

Communication takes several forms. Makaton is used across the school, while PECS, pictures and objects help children understand and express themselves where appropriate. This gives participation a practical meaning beyond spoken answers.

The wider school environment includes sensory gardens and rooms, a hydrotherapy pool and accessible playgrounds. Wheelchair swings are among the outdoor equipment. Wide corridors and wheelchair-accessible doorways support movement around the building. These are shared school facilities, rather than a promise that every nursery session includes each one.

Care and Support

Joining is planned around the individual child. Preparation can include visits at home or the current setting, visual materials, meetings about care needs and checks on equipment. Children may visit to meet their class team, giving them a way to build familiarity before starting.

Families of younger children in Early Years have two parent meetings each year. A Communication Book links home and school, with alternatives such as email agreed for parents who prefer them. The class teacher is the first contact for concerns, while the Family Adviser provides another route to support.

Eating and personal care are part of the learning day. Class staff accompany children at lunch, and eating programmes are developed with families, dietitians and NHS therapists as needed. Toileting programmes can also involve families. School staff deliver physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech and language therapy with NHS guidance and training; some children receive direct therapist input.

Moving On to Reception

Nursery attendance alone should not be treated as a guarantee of a Reception place. Manor Green’s specialist placement route centres on the school being named in the child’s EHCP. Children already placed at their named school normally continue into the next stage unless it can no longer meet their needs; SEND Services may consult families at transition points. This makes the child’s continuing placement and support needs the relevant consideration.

Preparation for a new class is separate from that placement decision. Staff arrange visits to new areas, sometimes within the child’s routine, and can use visual support or social stories. A July transition period gives pupils time in their next class, while teams exchange care and regulation information.

Practical Information

Initial enquiries can go to admissions@manorgreenschool.co.uk. Offers come through the local authority’s SEND service, and the school encourages contact before an application.

There is no parental attendance fee for Trust academy placements. At lunchtime, families can provide a packed lunch or purchase a school meal if their child is not entitled to free school meals. Payment enquiries go to the Finance Team. School uniform items can be bought through Arbor, with a pop-up shop at parent events where possible.

FAQs

It is nursery provision within a specialist day school. Placements normally involve an EHCP, with exceptional assessment placements possible before statutory school age.

Younger children in Early Years have two parent meetings each year. Families also use a Communication Book or an agreed alternative, such as email.

Individual transition plans can include visits, visual materials, care meetings and equipment checks. Children may meet their class team before starting.

Nursery attendance alone is not a guarantee. Existing pupils normally remain at their named school into the next stage unless it can no longer meet their needs, with SEND Services potentially consulting families at transition points.

Contact admissions@manorgreenschool.co.uk for an initial enquiry. Placement offers come from the local authority’s SEND service.
