Daily rhymes, stories and conversation give Woodlands Park’s nursery a clear emphasis: helping young children find their words. The nursery belongs to Woodlands Park Primary School on Heywood Avenue in Maidenhead, with an EYFS outdoor space used by nursery families at drop-off. It is part of the school’s early years provision.
In February 2026, Ofsted judged early years to meet the Expected standard. Children generally settled positively and progressed well from their starting points. Familiar routines and staff who understand families give the beginning of nursery a reassuring structure.
Communication carries much of the learning. Across early years, adults extend children’s vocabulary through conversation, while stories and rhymes feature daily. This gives children repeated chances to hear language and develop their understanding, rather than treating speaking as a separate activity.
The early years curriculum builds knowledge in a planned sequence across its learning areas. In practical terms, children develop language alongside an understanding of numbers and patterns, with mathematical vocabulary included too. Activities are adjusted to children’s starting points, so the learning takes account of what they can already do.
Practice happens outside as well as indoors. That gives children more than one setting in which to revisit their learning. In February 2026, early years children behaved positively and became more independent: the day supports learning how to manage themselves as well as acquiring new knowledge.
Settling begins with relationships and predictable routines. In February 2026, staff understood children and their families, and routines helped children feel comfortable and prepared to learn from the nursery stage. Early years staff were suitably trained, with appropriate care arrangements and extra help for children who needed it.
For children with special educational needs or disabilities, the school’s SENDCo works with families and staff to identify needs and review support. Individual and group interventions have measurable goals. Parents participate in reviews, and the Inclusion Leader consults them before seeking more targeted help from local authority services. This gives families a role in shaping support.
Hot lunches are cooked by the school’s in-house catering team. The three-week menu includes a vegetarian option, jacket potatoes and meat dishes, followed by dessert. Lunches are booked ahead through ParentPay; packed lunches are also permitted. Water is provided in the dining hall, giving children access to a drink with their meal.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process: complete the common application form and submit it to the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead Council. The borough handles Reception admissions. Treat choosing the nursery and applying for Reception as separate decisions.
Nursery parents wait with their children in the EYFS outdoor area before class. Collection is from the classroom door, so families use a different arrangement from older pupils.
Grey joggers are recommended for nursery children. The school uniform includes a green cardigan or sweatshirt, a white polo shirt and black shoes; clothing and personal equipment should carry the child’s name.
School tours can be arranged through the office on 01628 822350 or office@woodlandsparkschool.org. The same office provides the contact route for families.
