Nursery at Ateres Elisheva

An early start in reading and a quick grasp of daily routines give Ateres Elisheva’s early years provision its clearest character. This is the nursery within an independent girls’ school with an Orthodox Jewish identity, based at Beis Menachem on Park Lane in Salford. The school includes provision for two-year-olds, confirmed in January 2025. Provision for children from birth to two at the same address is separately registered and is a different setting.
Ofsted graded the school’s early years provision Good at the inspection of 13 to 15 June 2023. That judgement covers early years within the school; it is not a separate nursery rating.
Reading has a clear starting point: children learn the sounds represented by letters. In June 2023, early years children were making a successful beginning in reading, with staff teaching sounds accurately and tackling misunderstandings promptly. This gives young learners a foundation for recognising how written words work.
The early years curriculum generally mapped out both the knowledge to teach and its sequence. Activities also encouraged children to explore and take an interest in the world around them. Together, these findings describe provision with planned learning as well as opportunities to develop curiosity.
Curriculum continuity. In June 2023, a small number of subjects needed clearer decisions about essential knowledge and a better sequence linking early years with the next stage. Staff training was also applied unevenly between subjects across the school. These concerns matter when considering how consistently learning builds over time.
The school occupies a first-floor site, with some classes using modular buildings in its grounds. In January 2025, the school site included outdoor room for play and PE, alongside smaller rooms for individual teaching or work with a few pupils. These are school facilities, rather than a description of a dedicated nursery layout.
Settling into routines was a strength of early years in June 2023. Children adapted promptly, helping them begin participating in the school day. Relationships with adults and other children were warm, giving the learning routines a reassuring social foundation.
The June 2023 inspection also judged safeguarding effective across the school. Staff received regular training, understood how to raise welfare concerns and could draw on external agencies through the safeguarding lead. These arrangements provide the school-wide context for children’s care.
Attending this nursery does not guarantee a Reception place. Nursery admission and Reception admission are separate: families need to make a further application through the normal Reception process and meet its deadline.
Keep that application distinct from the educational progression described above. Familiarity with school routines is a feature of children’s experience, not an entitlement to a place.

Registration compliance. In January 2025, the school had implemented part of an expansion before its registration permitted it. It therefore did not comply with its registration agreement at that time, although it met the standards relevant to the proposed change. This was a school-wide regulatory issue.
No. Reception requires a separate application through the normal process.
