Stories, songs and nursery rhymes give Baguley Hall’s nursery its clearest character: reading starts with shared enjoyment. The provision sits within Baguley Hall Primary School in Manchester, where the school’s age range begins at three.
Ofsted judged the school’s early years provision Good at its March 2025 inspection. That judgement covers early years within the school, rather than a separately inspected nursery.
Themes organise learning within the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), the framework for this stage of children’s education. English, maths and vocabulary receive explicit attention. For parents, this means that learning new words forms part of the curriculum alongside early literacy and number work.
Mastering Number and Power Maths are the named maths programmes used across the EYFS. Read Write Inc is also named in the early years approach, while the nursery-specific English guidance describes teaching children to recognise and distinguish sounds. This gives a more precise picture of nursery literacy than assuming children immediately start formal reading lessons.
Books have a daily place. Staff share texts with nursery children, and stories sit alongside singing and nursery rhymes. In March 2025, early years learning was carefully planned, with activities serving clear educational purposes. The emphasis is on building knowledge and skills through deliberately chosen experiences.
Support for additional needs follows the school’s SEND process. Parents contribute to understanding their child’s needs, while staff assess, plan provision and review its impact. Adjustments to the curriculum are part of that process. Families can contact the SEND team through senco@baguleyhall.manchester.sch.uk or the school office.
The Children and Families Team (CAFT) provides another route for help. Appointments are arranged through the office, with support covering attendance, uniforms and connections to local services. The same team handles safeguarding concerns, records them on CPOMS and considers Early Help or a referral to children’s services where needed. This gives parents a defined route for raising worries.
Food forms part of wraparound care: Breakfast Club offers breakfast, while After School Club includes a cooked evening meal. School staff run both clubs and escort nursery children between the club and their classroom, so these handovers are organised by the school.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process and meet its deadline. Choosing this nursery should therefore be a decision about the nursery experience itself; a place here does not secure the next stage of schooling.
Since September 2026, nursery has followed the main school’s morning timetable: classroom doors open at 8:45am and the official start is 8:50am. Nursery finishes at 3:10pm, earlier than the main school to help families collecting siblings.
Breakfast Club and After School Club both accept nursery children and use the Sports Hall. Breakfast provision begins at 7:30am; afternoon care runs until 6pm. Both require advance booking and payment through School Spider under Bookings & Payments. A booking depends on space being available, and payment reserves the place. Families should use the school for current charges.
The school’s uniform options include a white polo shirt, grey or black bottoms and black footwear. Unbranded clothing is accepted, while branded items can be ordered through School Spider. Termly second-hand uniform sales take place in the school hall.
