Thirty nursery places put Cadishead’s youngest class within a primary academy on Allotment Road, Cadishead. The school describes its approach as treating children individually, with emotional wellbeing alongside learning. That is the stated aim for the wider school, rather than a separate nursery quality judgement. No Ofsted graded rating yet.
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) brings learning and care together. Its seven learning areas cover communication, physical skills and emotional development, alongside literacy, mathematics, creativity and understanding the world. For parents, this means early education has a broader purpose than learning letters and numbers: relationships, movement and expressing ideas matter too.
Play has a central role in the EYFS requirements. Children should have opportunities to pursue their own play as well as join learning guided by adults. The framework also calls for adults to respond to individual interests and development. These are expectations for provision, rather than a fixed timetable of lessons.
Cadishead’s curriculum uses the United Learning Framework for Excellence. The school aims to help children express themselves clearly and apply learning through practice and review, with progression beginning in Nursery. The useful distinction is between keeping children occupied and choosing activities that build knowledge over time. Its stated curriculum intention is the latter.
A key person is part of the EYFS model: a familiar adult develops an understanding of a child’s needs and supports confidence and learning. That relationship gives parents and staff a shared focus for understanding the child, while the framework expects families to be kept informed about development.
For children needing SEND support, the school uses a repeating cycle of assessment, planning, support and review. Parents receive a plan, and reviews take place at least once each term. The class teacher retains daily responsibility, working with the SENDCo and any support staff. This gives families a defined way to discuss whether help is making a difference.
School meals use Citywide’s Live Kitchen ordering system. Choices include a jacket potato with filling, meat-free and meat dishes, or a sandwich or wrap; there is also a salad bar. Orders can be placed from home or in the morning at school. Plates and bowls support familiar eating routines and learning table manners.
Nursery attendance does not guarantee a Reception place. Families must make a separate Reception application through the normal admissions process, using Salford’s online application route and meeting the applicable deadline. Keep that application separate from arranging nursery attendance.
For children with SEND, the SENDCo’s responsibilities include contact with the next education provider and planning transition with families. This concerns continuity of support. It does not secure admission.
Foundation Stage hours run from 8:40am until 3:10pm, with entry through classroom doors. After 8:55am, children enter through the main reception entrance. These are Foundation Stage timings, rather than a choice of nursery booking packages.
Uniform combines grey bottoms with a white polo shirt and royal blue cardigan or sweatshirt. Shoes should be plain black with flat soles. Nursery children do not need separate PE clothing, which reduces what families need to organise. Pre-loved uniform can be requested through the front office.
General enquiries go to mainoffice@cadisheadprimary.com or 0161 549 2790. For SEND enquiries, use senco@cadisheadprimary.com. These provide separate routes for everyday arrangements and discussions about additional support.
